Abstract

Token mobile caching ensures mobile device integrity for token-based transactions conducted across public networks. Generating and storing a token and client device identification for the token for later access when a client device presents the token to a transaction device is an integral part of mobile token integrity. Validating both the token and identification of a mobile device from which the token is provided via a private communication channel further ensures that public network-delivered tokens have integrity as a transaction authentication instrument.

Claims (37)

1 . A method of token mobile caching, comprising:

generating with a networked server a protocol abstraction token for performing an electronic transaction over a public network with a client device, the generating comprising:

determining at least one of a protocol type for an electronic message and a content for each of a plurality of information fields in the electronic message;

mapping at least a portion of the plurality of information fields to transaction protocol abstraction format message fields;

configuring a transaction protocol abstraction format transaction message based on the mapping;

wrapping the configured transaction message in a protocol abstraction content wrapper; and

configuring the protocol abstraction token with the protocol abstraction content wrapper;

providing the protocol abstraction token to the client device over the public network;

storing the protocol abstraction token along with information that uniquely identifies the client to which the protocol abstraction token was provided in a memory accessible to the server;

in response to receiving an electronic transaction message that includes the protocol abstraction token and identification information for a requesting client via a private acquisition communication channel at the server, retrieving and comparing the stored information that uniquely identifies the client to which the protocol abstraction token was provided with the identification information of the requesting client received with the protocol abstraction token; and

conducting the electronic transaction identified in the electronic transaction message if the comparing indicates the requesting client identification information is consistent with the stored information.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising declining the electronic transaction identified in the electronic transaction message if the comparing does not indicate that the requesting client information is consistent with the stored information.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the public network is Internet protocol-based and the private acquisition communication channel is not Internet protocol-based.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the private acquisition communication channel is a direct transaction channel between a point of sale device and the server.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic message includes information derived from a secure element associated with the client to which the token was provided.

6 . A method of token mobile caching, comprising:

generating with a networked server a first token for performing an electronic transaction over a public network with a personal mobile client device;

providing the first token to the personal mobile client device over the public network;

storing the first token along with information that uniquely identifies the personal mobile client to which the first token was provided in a memory accessible to the server;

receiving via a private acquisition communication channel an electronic token that references the first token and that identifies a client that provided the first token, wherein the electronic token is configured with a protocol abstraction content wrapper that comprises an electronic message in a protocol abstraction transaction format that is different than a format of the first token;

comparing the stored information that uniquely identifies the client to which the first token was provided with the client identification information in the electronic token; and

transmitting information for conducting an electronic transaction identified in the electronic token to a source of the electronic token from the server if the comparing indicates the electronic token client identification information is consistent with the stored information.

The method of claim 6 , further comprising transmitting information for declining the electronic transaction identified in the electronic token to the source of the electronic token if the comparing does not indicate that the electronic token client identification information is consistent with the stored information.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein transmitting information for one of conducting and declining the electronic transaction to the source of the electronic token comprises transmitting the information over the private acquisition communication channel.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the electronic message in the protocol abstraction transaction format is formed by:

mapping at least a portion of a plurality of information fields associated with the format of the first token to transaction protocol abstraction format message fields; and

configuring the electronic message in the protocol abstraction transaction format based on the mapping.

10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the private acquisition communication channel is a direct transaction channel between a point of sale device and the server.

11 . A method of token mobile caching, comprising:

generating with a networked server a token for performing an electronic transaction over a public network with a personal mobile client device;

providing the token to the personal mobile client device over the public network;

storing the token along with information that uniquely identifies the personal mobile client to which the token was provided in a memory accessible to the server; and

in response to receiving a token from a point of sale device via a private acquisition communication channel at the server, accessing stored information that uniquely identifies a personal mobile device that is associated with the token received at the server and transmitting from the server the accessed information to the point of sale device, wherein the point of sale device determines whether to accept the token as authorization to conduct an electronic transaction with the personal mobile device by comparing the information that uniquely identifies the client transmitted by the server with requesting client identification information received with the token from the personal mobile device.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the public network is Internet protocol-based and the private acquisition communication channel is not Internet protocol-based.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the private acquisition communication channel is a direct transaction channel between a point of sale device and the server.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the token comprises a protocol abstraction content wrapper.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the protocol abstraction content wrapper comprises a wrapper disposed around a common format transaction message.
