Abstract

Methods, systems, apparatus and machine readable media are disclosed to reduce biological carryover. An example method includes generating an alternating electromagnetic field and introducing an aspiration and dispense device into the electromagnetic field. The example method also includes inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device with the electromagnetic field to at least one of denature or deactivate at least one of a protein or a biological entity on a surface of the aspiration and dispense device.

Claims (40)

1. A method comprising:

generating an alternating electromagnetic field having a frequency;

introducing an aspiration and dispense device into the electromagnetic field;

inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device with the electromagnetic field; and

exposing the aspiration and dispense device to a fluid during inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device.

2. The method of claim 1 , further including disposing at least a portion of the aspiration and dispense device in a wash cup.

3. The method of claim 1 , further including exposing the aspiration and dispense device to the fluid after inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the aspiration and dispense device includes a first portion having a first diameter and a second portion having a second diameter and further including adjusting the frequency to generate a first frequency based on the first diameter when the first portion is disposed in the alternating electromagnetic field and a second frequency based on the second diameter when the second portion is disposed in the alternating electromagnetic field.

5. The method of claim 1 , further including adjusting the frequency to increase the temperature at which a first area of the aspiration and dispense device is inductively heated relative to a second area of the aspiration and dispense device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further including raising or lowering the aspiration and dispense device during the inductive heating.

7. A method comprising:

generating a current via an electrically conducting media;

detecting a change in the current based on a temperature change or a load change with respect to the electrically conducting media;

detecting a presence of an aspiration and dispense device in an electromagnetic field based on the change;

inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device with the electromagnetic field; and

raising or lowering the aspiration and dispense device relative to the electrically conducting media during inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein generating the current is further based on previously collected data with respect to one or more of the current or the presence of the aspiration and device relative to the electrically conducting media.

9. The method of claim 7 , further including inductively heating a portion of the aspiration and dispense device.

10. The method of claim 7 , further including disposing at least a portion of the aspiration and dispense device in a wash cup, the at least the portion of the aspiration and dispense device to be disposed in the wash cup during the inductive heating.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the wash cup is proximate to the electrically conducting media.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the thickness of a skin of the aspiration and dispense device varies along a length of the aspiration and dispense device and further including:

raising or lowering the aspiration and dispense device to heat the aspiration and dispense device along the length of the aspiration and dispense device; and

adjusting the current as the aspiration and dispense device as raised or lowered based on the varying thickness of the skin.

13. The method of claim 7 , further including detecting a short with respect to a circuit including the electrically conducting media.

14. The method of claim 7 , wherein the generating of the current is performed by a frequency generator, a circuit including the electrically conducting media to resonate at a frequency of the frequency generator.

15. The method of claim 14 , further including adjusting a frequency of the current via the frequency generator.

16. A method comprising:

determining a temperature at which to inductively heat the aspiration and dispense device based on a characteristic of the aspiration and dispense device;

generating an alternating electromagnetic field having a frequency based on the temperature;

introducing an aspiration and dispense device into the electromagnetic field;

inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device via the electromagnetic field; and

exposing the aspiration and dispense device to a fluid during inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein determining the temperature further includes determining a first temperature at which to inductively heat a first portion of the aspiration and dispense device and determining a second temperature at which to inductively heat a second portion of the aspiration and dispense device.

18. The method of claim 17 , further including:

raising or lowering the aspiration and dispense device during the inductive heating, one of the first portion or the second portion of the aspiration and dispense device to be exposed to the electromagnetic field at a first time;

adjusting the frequency based on the first temperature or the second temperature for the one of the first portion or the second portion exposed to the electromagnetic field at the first time.

19. The method of claim 18 , further including adjusting the frequency based the first temperature or the second temperature for the one of the first portion or the second portion exposed to the electromagnetic field at a second time.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the characteristic is a thickness of a skin of the aspiration and dispense device.

21. The method of claim 16 , further including adjusting the frequency to increase the temperature at which a first area of the aspiration and dispense device is inductively heated relative to a second area of the aspiration and dispense device to be inductively heated.

22. The method of claim 16 , further including exposing the aspiration and dispense device to the fluid before inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device.
