Abstract

A method of delivering advertising items to a client at a portable device is provided. A client ID is sent to a host server. A downloaded advertising item is produced relative to a product or service from the host server. The downloaded advertising item is parsed and stored. In response to the parsing and storing, displaying the advertising item is displayed to the client at the mobile device.

Claims (44)

1. A method of delivering advertising to a client at a portable device, comprising:

producing, by a host server, an advertising item relative to a product or service in response to receipt of a client ID associated with the portable device, wherein the advertising item comprises a string of characters;

pre-formatting the advertising item for subsequent parsing and storing of the advertising item at the portable device;

replacing characters in the advertising item with a list of values, the list of values being delimited by a special character;

compressing at least a portion of the string of characters of the advertising item by removing at least one character from the list of values, or replacing the at least a portion of the string of characters with a code number when the at least a portion of the string of characters is identified as being available on the portable device;

requesting, to the portable device, an additional client information based on an internal rule triggered by an action from the portable device;

removing a personal information datum from the string of characters of the advertising item to protect a client's privacy;

identifying, for deletion from the portable device, a used and expired advertising item;

sending the used and expired advertising item to the portable device for display at the portable device;

sending a command to the portable device to delete the used and expired advertising item from the portable device;

identifying which images and displays of current advertising items are to be deleted from the portable device;

sending a command to the portable device to delete an image or a display of a current advertising item that is identified for deletion; and

delivering, to the portable device, the advertising item when the advertising item is not yet delivered based on a client profile obtained with the additional client information to avoid repeated advertising to the client.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the advertising item includes at least one of a list of merchants, special event data, a coupon, an ad, a contest, and a loyalty card.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the advertising item on the portable device includes both layout and content information.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a portable device application to the portable device for download and installation.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving personalized information for a client associated with the client ID from an application configured to provide a prompt for personalized information of the client.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the personalized information is selected from at least one of the client's zip code, age, gender, address, contact information, and preferences.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of producing by the host server comprises:

processing data of actions of the client and of non-actions of the client at the host server from previous client activity;

updating the actions and the non-actions of the client for the advertising item and storing it at the host server; and

in response to the updating, sending the advertising item to the portable device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein, following the step of parsing, the client tokenizes the advertising item, examines a header of a token to determine its type, and then processes according to the type.

9. The method of claim 4 , wherein the portable device application is configured to:

receive an indication of a layout and content information of the advertising item received that is to be displayed next based on hard coded values or input of the client; and

load the layout and content information that is indicated.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the portable device application is further configured to:

sort through the layout, and replace any variables in the layout with data from the content information; and

adjust any layout constants based on specific settings of the portable device.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the portable device application is further configured to:

pass the layout with adjusted values to a controller of the portable device to paint the data onto a screen; and

accept client input by the controller and apply instructions or commands in the layout to decide what to do next.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising accepting the client input for multiple screens that the client sees.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the portable device application is further configured to:

iterate over all elements in the layout; and

replace any variables or constants found in the layout with data from the content information of a configuration file of the portable device.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the portable device application is further configured to:

execute equations found to calculate final values of specific elements in the layout; and

loop objects that are duplicated based on a number of content objects that exist, each of a sub-loop element value being loaded from a specific sub-content object.

15. The method of claim 10 ,

further comprising loading, with the portable device, an appropriate set of commands from an active layout and then executing those commands in response to client input.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the commands are selected from at least one of those that can cause storage operations, network operations, screen operations and flow control operations.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the commands are executed by specific portable device phone threads.
