Abstract

A mask to administer breathable gas to a user may include a body structure having a connection opening to connect to a line device to deliver the breathable gas; a sealing lip device to seal against the user's face, the sealing lip device joined to the body structure, and the sealing lip device having an upper bridge portion structured to cross the bridge of the user's nose in use, a pair of side portions structured to be positioned along corresponding side surfaces of the user's nose in use, and a lower bridge portion structured to cross the user's upper lip or chin region in use; and a pair of beadlike gel cushions, each positioned in a corresponding one of the side portions.

Claims (34)

1. A mask to administer breathable gas to a user, the mask comprising:

a body structure having a connection opening to connect to a line device to deliver the breathable gas;

a sealing lip device configured to seal against the user's face, the sealing lip device joined to the body structure, and the sealing lip device having an upper bridge portion configured to cross the bridge of the user's nose in use, a pair of side portions configured to be positioned along corresponding side surfaces of the user's nose in use, and a lower bridge portion configured to cross the user's upper lip or chin region in use; and

a pair of elongated gel cushions, each of the pair of elongated gel cushions positioned in a corresponding one of the pair of side portions.

2. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the body structure further comprises a transparent, hard shell.

3. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the sealing lip device is injection-molded onto the body structure.

4. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the pair of elongated gel cushions do not extend to the upper bridge portion.

5. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the pair of elongated gel cushions are bounded partly by the body structure and partly by the sealing lip device.

6. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the pair of elongated gel cushions are curved.

7. The mask of claim 1 , wherein the mask is a full-face mask or a nasal mask.

8. A breathing mask device for administering a breathable gas, the breathing mask device comprising:

a body structure having a connection opening to connect to a line device to deliver the breathable gas;

a sealing lip device joined to the body structure;

a breathing mask interior defined at least in part by the body structure and the sealing lip device;

a gel structure joined to the body structure, the gel structure configured to at least intermittently and partially transmit retention forces acting on the body structure to the user's face area, the gel structure further comprising an elastically deformable receiving wall and a gel receiving chamber formed at least in part by the elastically deformable receiving wall and the body structure; and

a gel material within the gel receiving chamber,

wherein the gel receiving chamber forms a bracing bead portion that extends between the body structure of the breathing mask device and the sealing lip device of the breathing mask device, and wherein the body structure is constructed of a first material and the elastically deformable receiving wall is constructed of a second material, the first material and the second material being different materials.

9. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the bracing bead portion extends over an entire circumference of the sealing lip device.

10. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the bracing bead portion is segmented, such that the bracing bead portion is configured to extend only in a contact region of the sealing lip device that laterally borders the user's nose.

11. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the gel structure does not extend to a region of the sealing lip device that is configured to cross the bridge of the nose as well as the upper lip region or the chin region.

12. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the gel structure is recessed, such that the gel structure transmits no bracing forces in a region of the bridge of the nose and the upper lip or the chin.

13. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the body structure is a hard mask shell or a frame element.

14. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , further comprising a filling conduit structure provided on the body structure.

15. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the breathing mask device is a full-face mask or a nasal mask.

16. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein an elastomer material of the elastically deformable receiving wall is formed onto the body structure of the breathing mask device.

17. The breathing mask device of claim 16 , wherein the elastically deformable receiving wall is lifted or separable from the body structure to form the gel receiving chamber.

18. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the sealing lip device is injection-molded onto the body structure.

19. The breathing mask device of claim 18 , wherein before injection molding of the sealing lip device, adhesion zones are generated on the body structure.

20. The breathing mask device of claim 19 , wherein the adhesion zones are generated by corona or plasma treatment.

21. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the sealing lip device further comprises a sealing lip, the sealing lip having a first surface configured to contact the user's face in use and a second surface positioned opposite the first surface and adjacent to the breathing mask interior, and

wherein the elastically deformable receiving wall is configured to contact the second surface of the sealing lip such that the bracing bead portion supports the sealing lip against the user's face in use.

22. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the sealing lip device is constructed of the second material.

23. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the elastically deformable receiving wall and the sealing lip device are formed integrally.

24. The breathing mask device of claim 8 , wherein the first material is polycarbonate and the second material is liquid silicone rubber.
