Abstract

A fluid delivery system, method, and apparatus for providing instillation therapy with a negative-pressure source is described. The apparatus includes a housing having an ambient chamber and a negative-pressure chamber fluidly isolated from each other. The apparatus also includes a moveable barrier disposed in the housing between the ambient chamber and the negative-pressure chamber. The moveable barrier is operable to move between a charge position and a discharge position in response to negative pressure. A fluid source is disposed in the negative-pressure chamber and is collapsible in response to movement of the moveable barrier to the discharge position. The apparatus also includes a fluid outlet in fluid communication with the fluid source, a negative-pressure port in fluid communication with the negative-pressure chamber and configured to be coupled to a negative-pressure source, and a vent formed in the housing and fluidly coupled to the ambient chamber.

a pressure sensing port fluidly coupled to the negative-pressure chamber.

17. A method for providing instillation therapy with a negative-pressure source, the method comprising:

providing a negative-pressure source;

providing a cartridge comprising:

a housing having an ambient chamber and a negative-pressure chamber fluidly isolated from each other;

a barrier disposed in the housing between the ambient chamber and the negative-pressure chamber, the barrier operable to move between a charge position and a discharge position in response to negative pressure;

a fluid source disposed in the negative-pressure chamber, the fluid source being collapsible;

a fluid outlet in fluid communication with the fluid source;

a negative-pressure port in fluid communication with the negative-pressure chamber and configured to be coupled to the negative-pressure source; and

a vent formed in the housing and fluidly coupled to the ambient chamber;

fluidly coupling the negative-pressure source to the negative-pressure port; and

supplying negative-pressure to the negative-pressure chamber move the barrier against the fluid source.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:

determining a volume of fluid flowing through the fluid outlet;

if the volume of fluid equals a therapeutic dosage, stopping the supply of negative pressure; and

venting the negative-pressure chamber to an ambient environment.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the cartridge further comprises a calibrated orifice disposed in the fluid outlet, the method further comprising:

determining a level of negative pressure in the negative pressure chamber;

calculating a flow rate through the fluid outlet based on the level of negative-pressure in the negative-pressure chamber and a diameter of the calibrated orifice; and

maintaining the level of negative pressure in the negative-pressure chamber to maintain the flow rate until a therapeutic volume of fluid is provided through the fluid outlet.
