Compositions and methods for modulating the immune system
View Patent ↗A novel class of embryo derived peptides are described (Preimplantation factor) that were generated synthetically and were tested on peripheral blood immune cells and shown to block activated but not basal immunity, inhibiting cell proliferation and creating a T H 2 type cytokine bias, in addition PIF enhance endometrial receptivity by increasing adhesion molecules expression. PIF biological activity appears to be exerted by specific binding to inducible receptors present on the several white cell lineages. PIF peptides, which are immune modulators therefore may have diagnostic and non toxic therapeutic applications in improving fertility, reducing pregnancy loss as well may be useful when administered for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and for prevention xenotransplants rejection.
1. A method of treating chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in a subject comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of PIF peptide to the subject in need thereof, wherein said PIF peptide is selected from PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13), PIF-1(9) (SEQ ID NO:16), PIF-1(5) (SEQ ID NO:18) and PIF-1(4) (SEQ ID NO:19).
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said PIF peptide is PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13).
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount is from about 0.01 mg/kg to about 10 mg/kg.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount is from about 0.1 mg/kg to about 1.0 mg/kg.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PIF peptide is PIF-1(9) (SEQ ID NO:16).
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PIP peptide is PIF-1(5) (SEQ ID NO:18).
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PIF peptide is PIF-1(4) (SEQ ID NO:19).
8. A method of delaying the onset and/or slowing the progression of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in a subject comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of PIF peptide to the subject in need thereof, wherein said PIF peptide is selected from PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13), PIF-1(9) (SEQ ID NO:16), PIF-1(5) (SEQ ID NO:18) and PIF-1(4) (SEQ ID NO:19).
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said PIF peptide is PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13).
10. The method of claim 8 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount is from about 0.01 mg/kg to about 10 mg/kg.
11. A method of treating chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in a subject comprising administering to the subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of PIF peptide and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier comprising water, wherein said PIF peptide is selected from PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13), PIF-1(9) (SEQ ID NO:16), PIF-1(5) (SEQ ID NO:18) and PIF-1(4) (SEQ ID NO:19).
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein said PIF peptide is PIF-1(15) (SEQ ID NO:13).
13. The method of claim 11 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount is from about 0.01 mg/kg to about 10 mg/kg.
