Flash Coating Treatments For Proppant Solids
Treatment methods for coated or uncoated proppants that can, among other things, control fugitive dust during typical handling procedures with typical transport equipment and/or add functional features to the proppant solid are disclosed herein.
1 . A proppant comprising a particle and a coating disposed on the particle, wherein the coating comprises a surfactant and an acrylic polymer.
2 . The proppant of claim 1 , wherein the acrylic polymer is a copolymer.
3 . The proppant of claim 2 , wherein the copolymer is a copolymer of an acrylamide and an unsaturated aliphatic compound.
4 . The proppant of claim 2 , wherein the copolymer is a copolymer of a carboxylic acid monomer and an unsaturated aliphatic compound.
5 . The proppant of claim 3 , wherein the unsaturated aliphatic compound is an unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid.
6 . The proppant of claim 4 , wherein the unsaturated aliphatic compound is an unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid.
7 . The proppant of claim 3 , wherein the wherein the unsaturated aliphatic compound is 2-chloroacrylic acid, 2-bromoacrylic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, itaconic acid, methacrylic acid, or mesaconic acid.
8 . The proppant of claim 4 , wherein the wherein the unsaturated aliphatic compound is 2-chloroacrylic acid, 2-bromoacrylic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, itaconic acid, methacrylic acid, or mesaconic acid.
9 . The proppant of claim 3 , wherein the unsaturated compound is acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, methyl itaconate, styrene, or 2-hydroxylethyl methacrylate.
10 . The proppant of claim 4 , wherein the unsaturated compound is acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, methyl itaconate, styrene, or 2-hydroxylethyl methacrylate.
11 . The proppant of claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is an alkoxylated alcohol.
12 . The proppant of claim 1 , wherein the coating comprises a metal.
13 . The proppant of claim 2 , wherein the metal is zinc.
14 . The proppant of claim 1 , wherein the coating disposed on the particle is formed from an aqueous composition comprising the surfactant and the acrylic polymer.
15 . The proppant of claim 14 , wherein the acrylic polymer is a copolymer.
16 . The proppant of claim 15 , wherein the copolymer is a copolymer of an acrylamide and an unsaturated aliphatic compound.
17 . The proppant of claim 15 , wherein the copolymer is a copolymer of a carboxylic acid monomer and an unsaturated aliphatic compound.
18 . A process for preparing the proppant of claim 1 , the method comprising applying the coating comprising the surfactant and the acrylic polymer to the particle.
19 . The process of claim 18 , wherein the coating is an aqueous composition comprising the surfactant and the acrylic polymer.
20 . A method of reducing fugitive dust from a method of hydraulic fracturing comprising using the proppant of claim 1 in the method of hydraulic fracturing.
