Abstract

Some users (also called sharers) desire to share content with recipients (also called recipients) over a virtual community or other computerized means. Some of the content to be shared (first-order content) may include links, hyperlinks, or other references (links) to additional content (each individually a second-order content). These content layers may continue indefinitely and the content layers may contain links both within and without the domain or virtual community of the first-order content. A sharer may be unaware of whether various recipients have access to any of the various layers of content (first-order or otherwise). Embodiments of the present invention transmit the likelihood for individual recipients to access various layers of content to the sharer.

Claims (42)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by one or more computer processors, a request to share a set of content with a set of recipients;

determining, by the one or more computer processors, a set of recipient accesses, wherein a recipient access in the set of recipient accesses corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each recipient access in the set of recipient accesses describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients can access the set of content;

determining, by the one or more computer processors, a set of prediction scores, wherein a prediction score in the set of prediction scores corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each prediction score in the set of prediction scores describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients will access the set of content;

determining, by the one or more computer processors, that one or more access requests are required for a subset of the set of recipients to access at least a first content in the set of content based, at least in part, on the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores; and

submitting, by the one or more computer processors, prior to sharing the set of content with the set of recipients, the one or more access requests for the subset of the set of recipients to a set of content owners, wherein a content owner in the set of content owners corresponds to a content in the set of content.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the one or more computer processors, the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores to a user.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the set of prediction scores is transmitted in a graphical manner.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the set of prediction scores presented in the graphical manner is ranked based on the likelihood that the set of recipients will read the set of content.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of content exists on a virtual community.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of prediction scores is based, at least in part, on a social graph.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the set of content includes at least a first layer and a second layer; and

the second layer is accessed by a link contained in the first layer.

8. A computer program product comprising:

one or more computer readable storage device; and

program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage device, the program instructions comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to share a set of content with a set of recipients;

program instructions to determine a set of recipient accesses, wherein a recipient access in the set of recipient accesses corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each recipient access in the set of recipient accesses describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients can access the set of content;

program instructions to determine a set of prediction scores, wherein a prediction score in the set of prediction scores corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each prediction score in the set of prediction scores describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients will access the set of content;

program instructions to determine that one or more access requests are required for a subset of the set of recipients to access at least a first content in the set of content based, at least in part, on the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores; and

program instructions to submit, prior to sharing the set of content with the set of recipients, the one or more access requests for the subset of the set of recipients to a set of content owners, wherein a content owner in the set of content owners corresponds to a content in the set of content.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 , further comprising:

program instructions to transmit the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores to a user.

10. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the set of prediction scores is transmitted in a graphical manner.

11. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the set of content exists on a virtual community.

12. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the set of prediction scores is based, at least in part, on a social graph.

13. A computer system comprising:

one or more computer processors;

one or more computer readable storage device; and

program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage device for execution by at least one of the one or more computer processors, the program instructions comprising:

program instructions to receive a request to share a set of content with a set of recipients;

program instructions to determine a set of recipient accesses, wherein a recipient access in the set of recipient accesses corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each recipient access in the set of recipient accesses describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients can access the set of content;

program instructions to determine a set of prediction scores, wherein a prediction score in the set of prediction scores corresponds to a recipient in the set of recipients and wherein each prediction score in the set of prediction scores describes a likelihood that a corresponding recipient in the set of recipients will access the set of content;

program instructions to determine that one or more access requests are required for a subset of the set of recipients to access at least a first content in the set of content based, at least in part, on the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores; and

program instructions to submit, prior to sharing the set of content with the set of recipients, the one or more access requests for the subset of the set of recipients to a set of content owners, wherein a content owner in the set of content owners corresponds to a content in the set of content.

14. The computer system of claim 13 , further comprising:

program instructions to transmit the set of recipient accesses and the set of prediction scores to a user.

15. The computer system of claim 14 , wherein the set of prediction scores is transmitted in a graphical manner.

16. The computer system of claim 13 , wherein the set of content exists on a virtual community.

17. The computer system of claim 13 , wherein the set of prediction scores is based, at least in part, on a social graph.
