Abstract

In an aspect, a track maintenance vehicle includes a body, a work head, and a controller. The work head performs track maintenance and is coupled to the body. The controller is configured to operate the vehicle in an autonomous mode. In another aspect, an anchor adjustor includes first and second jaws and an actuator. The jaws pivot about a single axis. The actuator causes the jaws to rotate about the axis. In another aspect, an anchor adjustor assembly includes a first pair of jaws, a second pair of jaws and an actuator. The first and second pairs of jaws open and close about a rail in a track. The actuator causes the closed first pair of jaws to translate towards the closed second pair of jaws along a longitudinal direction of the rail.

Claims (52)

1. An anchor adjustor assembly, comprising:

a first pair of jaws configured to open and close about a rail in a track;

a second pair of jaws configured to open and close about the rail in the track disposed a distance from the first pair of jaws in the longitudinal direction of the rail; and

an actuator configured to cause the closed first pair of jaws to translate towards the closed second pair of jaws, wherein

the first pair of jaws includes:

a housing that defines a space;

a carriage disposed within the space of the housing;

a first member that couples the carriage to a first jaw of the first pair of jaws; and

a second member that couples the carriage to a second jaw of the first pair of jaws, and

displacement of the carriage within the housing causes the first jaw and the second jaw to rotate in opposite directions about the rail.

2. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 , wherein

the first pair of jaws include an anchor contact surface on a side of the first pair of jaws facing the second pair of jaws, and

the second pair of jaws include an anchor contact surface on a side of the second pair of jaws facing the first pair of jaws.

3. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a longitudinal tube along which the first pair of jaws and the second pair of jaws are movable.

4. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator includes a first hydraulic cylinder arranged at a side of the first pair of jaws distal from the second pair of jaws, and

a second hydraulic cylinder arranged at a side of the second pair of jaws distal from the first pair of jaws.

5. An anchor adjustor assembly, comprising:

a first pair of jaws configured to open and close about a rail in a track;

a second pair of jaws configured to open and close about the rail in the track disposed a distance from the first pair of jaws in the longitudinal direction of the rail; and

an actuator configured to cause the closed first pair of jaws to translate towards the closed second pair of jaws, wherein

the first pairs of jaws includes:

a motor connected to a first jaw of the first pair of jaws,

a first gear connected to the motor, and

a second gear connected to a second jaw of the first pair of jaws, the second gear being engaged with the first gear.

6. The anchor adjustor of claim 5 , wherein

the first and second jaws pivot about a single axis, and

actuating the motor causes the first and second jaws to rotate about the axis.

7. The anchor adjustor of claim 5 , further comprising

a housing that defines a space;

a carriage disposed within the space of the housing;

a first arm connecting the carriage to the first jaw; and

a second arm connecting the carriage to the second jaw, wherein

rotation of the first and second jaws cause the carriage to move within the housing.

8. The anchor adjustor of claim 7 , wherein the carriage moves along an axis orthogonal to the axis about which the first and second jaws pivot.

9. A track maintenance vehicle comprising the anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 .

10. The track maintenance vehicle of claim 9 , further comprising a controller configured to operate the vehicle in an autonomous mode.

11. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 5 , wherein

the first pair of jaws include an anchor contact surface on a side of the first pair of jaws facing the second pair of jaws, and

the second pair of jaws include an anchor contact surface on a side of the second pair of jaws facing the first pair of jaws.

12. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 5 , further comprising a longitudinal tube along which the first pair of jaws and the second pair of jaws are movable.

13. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 5 , wherein the actuator includes

a first hydraulic cylinder arranged at a side of the first pair of jaws distal from the second pair of jaws, and

a second hydraulic cylinder arranged at a side of the second pair of jaws distal from the first pair of jaws.

14. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first pairs of jaws includes:

a motor coupled to the first jaw,

a first gear coupled to the motor, and

a second gear coupled to the second jaw, the second gear being engaged with the first gear.

15. The anchor adjustor of claim 14 , wherein

the first and second jaws pivot about a single axis, and

actuating the motor causes the first and second jaws to rotate about the axis.

16. The anchor adjustor of claim 1 , wherein the carriage moves along an axis orthogonal to the axis about which the first and second jaws pivot.

17. The anchor adjustor assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first and second jaws pivot about a single axis.
