Abstract

A method of enhancing a content feed is disclosed. The method can receiving first viewing data associated with a first automatic content recognition (ACR) event and second viewing data associated with a second ACR event, where the first ACR event is received from a first client device that employs a first ACR technology, and the second ACR event is received from a second client device that employs a second ACR technology that is different than the first ACR technology. The method can also include normalizing the first viewing data and the second viewing data into a common format. The method can further include aggregating the first viewing data and the second viewing data to obtain an aggregated viewing data report. The method can further include storing, in a viewing database, the aggregated viewing data report.

1. A server device comprising:

a memory device to store instructions for a content manager that manages and tracks media content streams to a plurality of client devices;

a processing device operatively coupled to the memory device, the processing device to execute the content manager to:

determine first viewing data associated with a first automatic content recognition (ACR) event received from a first client device and second viewing data associated with a second ACR event received from a second client device, wherein the first viewing data or the second viewing data comprises:

channel information indicating what media content the first client device or the second client device has displayed,

duration information indicating a period of time the first client device or the second client device displayed the media content, and

user command information specifying a command received from the first client device or the second client device;

identify data fields common to the first viewing data and the second viewing data, wherein first data fields of the first viewing data are in a different order than second data fields of the second viewing data;

remove data fields not common to the first viewing data and the second viewing data;

map data field locations of the first viewing data to the second data fields of the second viewing data;

reorder data field locations of the first viewing data and the second viewing data to a single data model;

create a viewing data report as a compilation of the first viewing data and the second viewing data; and

send the viewing data report to a requesting computer system for administrator review.

2. The server device of claim 1 , wherein the first viewing data and the second viewing data have different data formats, and wherein the content manager is further to:

normalize the first viewing data and the second viewing data into a common format; and

aggregate the first viewing data and the second viewing data to create the viewing data report.

3. The server device of claim 2 , wherein to normalize the first viewing data and the second viewing data, the content manager is further to reformat the first viewing data and the second viewing data to create the single data model.

4. The server device of claim 3 , wherein to normalize the first viewing data and second viewing data, the content manager is further to remove data from data fields of the first viewing data and the second viewing data that are data fields irrelevant to the first viewing data and the second viewing data.

5. The server device of claim 3 , wherein to normalize the first viewing data, the content manager is further to:

identify a data field of the first viewing data that is missing data for a common data format;

derive the missing data from other data fields of the first viewing data; and

reformat the data fields of the first viewing data to the common data format with the derived missing data.

6. The server device of claim 3 , wherein the normalized first viewing data and the second viewing data indicates a user's viewing behavior across devices with different ACR technologies.

7. The server device of claim 1 , wherein the content manager is further to receive third viewing data from an ACR system in response to the first ACR event or the second ACR event.

8. A method comprising:

analyzing, by a processing device, media content to generate a first fingerprint compatible with a first automatic content recognition (ACR) system and a second fingerprint compatible with a second ACR system, wherein the media content is streamed to a first client device and to a second client device, and the first ACR system employs a first ACR technology different from a second ACR technology employed by the second ACR system;

sending, by the processing device, the first fingerprint to the first ACR system and the second fingerprint to the second ACR system;

receiving a first ACR event, formatted with the first ACR technology, from the first client device responsive to the first client device matching the first fingerprint with the media content;

receiving a second ACR event, formatted with the second ACR technology, from the second client device responsive to second client device matching the second fingerprint with the media content;

determining first viewing data associated with the first ACR event received from the first client device and second viewing data associated with the second ACR event received from the second client device, wherein the first viewing data or the second viewing data comprises:

channel information indicating what media content the first client device or the second client device has displayed,

duration information indicating a period of time the first client device or the second client device displayed the media content, and

user command information specifying a command received from the first client device or the second client device;

identifying data fields common to the first viewing data and the second viewing data, wherein first data fields of the first viewing data are in a different order than second data fields of the second viewing data;

removing data fields not common to the first viewing data and the second viewing data;

mapping data field locations of the first viewing data to the second data fields of the second viewing data;

reordering data field locations of the first viewing data and the second viewing data to a single data model;

creating a viewing data report as a compilation of the first viewing data and the second viewing data; and

sending the viewing data report to a requesting computer system;

identifying, by the processing device, overlay content that is associated with the first ACR event and with the second ACR event;

retrieving, from an overlay database, the overlay content associated with the first ACR event and the second ACR event; and

delivering, to the first client device and the second client device, the overlay content to be displayed as an overlay on top of the media content while being streamed to the first client device and the second client device.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises updating the viewing data report to include other viewing information from an external viewing database.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:

determining a first overlay format of the overlay content to send to the first client device based on the first ACR event;

determining a second overlay format of the overlay content to send to the second client device based on the second ACR event; and

delivering the first overlay format to the first client device and the second overlay format to the second client device.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising retrieving the overlay content from a plurality of overlay databases.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from a content feed, new overlay content;

storing, at the processing device, the new overlay content;

determining a first overlay format of the overlay content to send to the first client device using the new overlay content; and

determining a second overlay format of the overlay content to send to the second client device using the new overlay content.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:

receive first viewing data associated with a first automatic content recognition (ACR) event and second viewing data associated with a second ACR event, wherein the first ACR event is received from a first client device that employs a first ACR technology, and the second ACR event is received from a second client device that employs a second ACR technology that is different than the first ACR technology, and wherein the first viewing data or the second viewing data comprises:

channel information indicating what media content the first client device or the second client device has displayed,

duration information indicating a period of time the first client device or the second client device displayed the media content, and

user command information specifying a command received from the first client device or the second client device;
