TITANIUM PLASMA COATED MEDICAL GRADE THERMOPLASTIC OR POLYMER PROXIMAL AND DISTAL INTERPHALANGEAL TOE IMPLANT
A medical grade thermoplastic or polymer implant with an osteoconductive coating is provided, specifically for corrections of the distal and proximal interphalangeal toe joints of the foot. The implant can be either straight or angled, and can be either solid or cannulated for insertion. The implant is sized and shaped depending on the specific anatomy and desired correction.
1 . An interphalangeal toe implant for deformity correction of a hammer toe, a mallet toe, a claw toe, or an arthritic toe condition, the implant comprising:
an implant body having a threaded proximal end section for fixation to a first bone portion, and a distal end section with fixation features for fixing the implant body to a second bone portion,
wherein the implant body comprises polyetheretherketone (PEEK),
wherein the implant body comprises an osteoconductive coating,
wherein the osteoconductive coating provides a surface for promoting bone growth when the implant is implanted in the first and second bone portions, and
wherein the implant body is radiolucent.
2 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the osteoconductive coating comprises titanium plasma.
3 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the osteoconductive coating comprises HAp.
4 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the implant body comprises one or more markers viewable under fluoroscopy.
5 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the implant body is cannulated.
6 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the implant body has a central section shaped such that the proximal end section of the implant body is oriented at a predetermined angle to the distal end section of the implant body.
7 . The implant of claim 6 , wherein the predetermined angle is an angle for performing an angular correction of the toe deformity.
8 . The implant of claim 4 , wherein the markers comprise a metal/alloy.
9 . The implant of claim 4 , wherein the markers comprise a distal marker at the distal end section, a proximal marker at the proximal end section, and a central marker at a central section of the implant body between the proximal and distal end sections.
10 . The implant of claim 8 , wherein the markers comprise tantalum metal/alloy.
11 . An interphalangeal toe implant for correction of a deformity of the toe, comprising:
an implant body having a threaded proximal end section for fixation to a first bone portion, and a distal end section with fixation features for fixing the implant body to a second bone portion;
wherein the implant body comprises a medical-grade thermoplastic or polymer; and
wherein the implant body has an osteoconductive coating.
12 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the osteoconductive coating is for providing a surface for promoting bone growth when the implant is implanted in the first and second bone portions.
13 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the osteoconductive coating comprises titanium plasma.
14 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the osteoconductive coating comprises hydroxyapatite (HAp).
15 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the implant is for deformity correction of a hammer toe, a mallet toe, a claw toe, or an arthritic toe condition.
16 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the implant body is cannulated.
17 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the implant body has a central section shaped such that the proximal end section of the implant body is oriented at a predetermined angle to the distal end section of the implant body.
18 . The implant of claim 17 , wherein the predetermined angle is an angle for performing an angular correction of the toe deformity.
19 . The implant of claim 11 , wherein the implant body comprises one or more markers viewable under fluoroscopy.
20 . The implant of claim 19 ,
wherein the markers comprise a distal marker at the distal end section, a proximal marker at the proximal end section, and a central marker at a central section of the implant body between the proximal and distal end sections; and
wherein the markers are tantalum metal/alloy markers.
