Abstract

An integrated computing system configuration system includes a computing system that executes an engine to receive component specifications for each of one or more components supplied by a plurality of suppliers, and receive user input for selecting a subset of the components to be implemented in a customized integrated computing system by generating a base integrated computing system configuration that comprises the component specifications of the subset of the components. The engine may then determine whether at least one component meets a rule using the component specification associated with the at least one component, the rule specifying an architectural standard level to be provided by the at least one component, and when the at least one component does not meet the rule, perform one or more corrective operations such that the rule is met.

Claims (33)

1. A computing system configuration system comprising:

a computing system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory to store instructions that are executed by the at least one processor to:

receive component specifications for each of one or more components supplied by a plurality of suppliers;

receive user input for selecting a subset of the components to be implemented in a customized computing system by generating a base computing system configuration that comprises the component specifications of the subset of the components;

determine whether at least one component of the subset of the components meets a rule using a component specification associated with the at least one component, the rule specifying an architectural standard level to be provided by the at least one component;

when the at least one component does not meet the rule, perform one or more corrective operations such that the rule is met and inhibit exporting of a customized computing system configuration associated with the customized computing system as long as at least one rule is not met; and

when the at least one component meets the rule, export the at least one component to a customized computing system configuration configured to enable implementation of the customized computing system.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the instructions are further executed to receive user input for overriding the inhibited exporting of the customized computing system configuration, the user input provided via a supervisory login session.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the corrective operations comprise at least one of replacing one component specification with another component specification, removal of the one component specification from the customized computing system configuration, addition of a new component specification to the customized computing system configuration.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executed to modify a physical layout of the customized computing system in one or more computing racks based on one or more environmental characteristics.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the environmental characteristics comprise at least one of a maximum quantity of racks, aggregation or separation of one or more sub-systems of the customized computing system configuration, a maximum quantity of chassis-per-rack, a maximum allocated power to each rack, a minimum amount of cooling allocated to each rack, and a maximum amount of weight allocated to each rack.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executed to receive user input for performing corrective actions manually by a user.

7. A computing system configuration method comprising:

receiving, using executable instructions stored in a non-transitory medium and executed on at least one processor, component specifications for each of one or more components supplied by a plurality of suppliers;

receiving, using the instructions, user input for selecting a subset of the components to be implemented in a customized computing system by generating a base computing system configuration that comprises the component specifications of the subset of the components;

determining, using the instructions, whether at least one component of the subset of the components meets a rule using a component specification associated with the at least one component, the rule specifying an architectural standard level to be provided by the at least one component;

when the at least one component does not meet the rule, performing, using the instructions, one or more corrective operations such that the rule is met, and inhibiting export of a customized computing system configuration associated with the customized computing system as long as at least one rule is not met; and

when the at least one component meets the rule, exporting the at least one component to a customized computing system configuration configured to enable implementation of the customized computing system.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising receiving user input for overriding the inhibited export of the customized computing system configuration, the user input provided via a supervisory login session.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the corrective operations comprise at least one of replacing one component specification with another component specification, removal of the one component specification from the customized computing system configuration, addition of a new component specification to the customized computing system configuration.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising modifying a physical layout of the customized computing system in one or more computing racks based on one or more environmental characteristics.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the environmental characteristics comprise at least one of a maximum quantity of racks, aggregation or separation of one or more sub-systems of the customized computing system configuration, a maximum quantity of chassis-per-rack, a maximum allocated power to each rack, a minimum amount of cooling allocated to each rack, and a maximum amount of weight allocated to each rack.

12. The method of claim 7 , further comprising receiving user input for performing corrective actions manually by a user.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions stored thereon, the instructions executable by one or more processors of a computing system to cause the computing system to:

receive component specifications for each of one or more components supplied by a plurality of suppliers;

receive user input for selecting a subset of the components to be implemented in a customized computing system by generating a base computing system configuration that comprises the component specifications of the subset of the components; and

determine whether at least one component of the subset of the components meets a rule using a component specification associated with the at least one component, the rule specifying an architectural standard level to be provided by the at least one component;

when the at least one component does not meet the rule, perform one or more corrective operations such that the rule is met, and inhibiting export of a customized computing system configuration associated with the customized computing system as long as at least one rule is not met;

when the at least one component meets the rule, export the at least one component to a customized computing system configuration configured to enable implementation of the customized computing system.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , further operable to perform receiving user input for overriding the inhibited export of the customized computing system configuration, the user input provided via a supervisory login session.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , further operable to perform modifying a physical layout of the customized computing system in one or more computing racks based on one or more environmental characteristics.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the environmental characteristics comprise at least one of a maximum quantity of racks, aggregation or separation of one or more sub-systems of the customized computing system configuration, a maximum quantity of chassis-per-rack, a maximum allocated power to each rack, a minimum amount of cooling allocated to each rack, and a maximum amount of weight allocated to each rack.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , further operable to perform receiving user input for performing corrective actions manually by a user.
