Cutting guide with seam allowance recess
View Patent ↗A cutting guide having a seam allowance recess and methods of cutting a piece of material with such cutting guide.
1. A cutting guide, comprising:
a) a body having a generally square or rectangular configuration, said body having substantially flat top and bottom surfaces disposed in generally parallel opposed relation, said body having a thickness of about one-eighth inch to about five-eighths inch; and
b) a recess disposed in said bottom surface of said body, said recess having a width defined by location of a pair of linear opposed sides disposed in generally parallel relation between about one-quarter inch to about three-quarters inch apart, said recess having a depth defined by location of a cross member coupled between said pair of linear opposed sides, wherein a first of said pair of linear opposed sides has a location on a diagonal axis which intersects diagonally opposite corners of said body, and wherein said recess provides a passage between diagonally opposite corners of said body.
2. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein said depth of said recess is between about one sixteenth inch to about five sixteenths inch.
3. The cutting guide of claim 2 , wherein said depth of said recess is about one sixteenth inch and said thickness of said body is about one-eighth inch.
4. A method of producing a cutting guide, comprising the steps of:
a) providing a body having a generally square or rectangular configuration, said body having substantially flat top and bottom surfaces disposed in generally parallel opposed relation, said body having a thickness of about one-eighth inch to about five-eighths inch; and
b) disposing a recess in said bottom surface of said body, said recess having a width defined by location of a pair of linear opposed sides disposed in generally parallel relation between about one-quarter inch to about three-quarters inch apart, said recess having a depth defined by location of a cross member coupled between said pair of linear opposed sides, wherein a first of said pair of linear opposed sides has a location on a diagonal axis between diagonally opposite corners of said body, said recess providing a passage between diagonally opposite corners of said body.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said depth of said recess is between about one sixteenth inch to about five sixteenths inch.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein said depth of said recess is about one sixteenth inch and said thickness of said body is about one-eighth inch.
