Abstract

An oven appliance includes a baking stone positioned within a housing at a bottom portion of a cooking chamber. An entrance of a venting channel is positioned over an opening of the housing, and an exit of the venting channel is positioned above the entrance of the venting channel. The exit of the venting channel is also positioned such that the exit of the venting channel is exposed to interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing.

Claims (28)

1. An oven appliance, comprising:

a housing defining a cooking chamber, the housing also defining an opening for accessing the cooking chamber of the housing;

an upper heating element array positioned within the housing at a top portion of the cooking chamber;

a baking stone positioned within the housing at a bottom portion of the cooking chamber;

a lower heating element array positioned within the housing below the baking stone adjacent the bottom portion of the cooking chamber;

a casing defining a venting channel, the venting channel extending between an entrance and an exit, the entrance of the venting channel positioned over the opening of the housing, the exit of the venting channel positioned above the entrance of the venting channel, the exit of the venting channel positioned such that the exit of the venting channel is exposed to interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing, the exit of the venting channel configured for directing air from the venting channel into the interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing.

2. The oven appliance of claim 1 , further comprising a smoke reduction catalyst positioned within the venting channel of the casing.

3. The oven appliance of claim 2 , wherein the smoke reduction catalyst is positioned within the venting channel of the casing at the entrance of the venting channel.

4. The oven appliance of claim 2 , further comprising a catalyst heating element positioned at the smoke reduction catalyst.

5. The oven appliance of claim 2 , further comprising insulation disposed within the casing opposite the smoke reduction catalyst.

6. The oven appliance of claim 1 , wherein the casing defines an air plenum, the air plenum extending between an inlet and a plurality of outlets, the inlet of the air plenum positioned at a bottom portion of the casing, the outlets of the plurality of outlets of the air plenum positioned above the inlet of the air plenum at a top portion of the casing.

7. The oven appliance of claim 6 , wherein the outlets of the plurality of outlets of the air plenum are positioned at the venting channel of the casing, the outlets of the plurality of outlets configured for directing air within the air plenum into the venting channel.

8. The oven appliance of claim 6 , further comprising an air handler positioned within the air plenum of the casing and configured for drawing air into the air plenum at the inlet of the air plenum.

9. The oven appliance of claim 6 , wherein the casing extends about the opening of the housing.

10. The oven appliance of claim 6 , further comprising a smoke reduction catalyst positioned within the venting channel of the casing below the outlets of the plurality of outlets of the air plenum.

11. The oven appliance of claim 1 , further comprising an air handler positioned within the venting channel of the casing and configured for drawing air into the venting channel at the entrance of the venting channel.

12. The oven appliance of claim 1 , wherein no door is positioned at the opening of the housing such that the opening of the housing is exposed to interior room ambient atmosphere.

13. The oven appliance of claim 1 , wherein the opening of the housing defines a width along a lateral direction, the entrance of the venting channel also defining a width along the lateral direction, the width of the opening being substantially equal to the width of venting channel.

14. An oven appliance, comprising:

a housing defining an open cooking chamber, the open cooking chamber contiguous with interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing via an opening defined by the housing at a front portion of the housing;

a baking stone positioned within the housing at a bottom portion of the open cooking chamber;

a casing defining a venting channel, the venting channel extending between an entrance and an exit, the entrance of the venting channel positioned over the opening of the housing such that cooking fumes within the open cooking chamber are received by the entrance of the venting channel at the opening of the housing, the exit of the venting channel positioned above the entrance of the venting channel, the exit of the venting channel positioned such that the exit of the venting channel is contiguous with the interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing, the exit of the venting channel configured for directing the cooking fumes within the venting channel into the interior room ambient atmosphere about the housing, the casing further defining an air plenum, the air plenum extending between an inlet and a plurality of outlets, the inlet of the air plenum positioned at a bottom portion of the casing, the outlets of the plurality of outlets of the air plenum positioned at the venting channel of the casing, the outlets of the plurality of outlets configured for directing air within the air plenum into the venting channel; and

a smoke reduction catalyst positioned within the venting channel of the casing below the outlets of the plurality of outlets of the air plenum.

15. The oven appliance of claim 14 , wherein the smoke reduction catalyst is positioned within the venting channel of the casing at the entrance of the venting channel.

16. The oven appliance of claim 14 , further comprising a catalyst heating element positioned at the smoke reduction catalyst.

17. The oven appliance of claim 14 , further comprising an air handler positioned within the air plenum of the casing and configured for drawing air into the air plenum at the inlet of the air plenum.

18. The oven appliance of claim 14 , wherein the casing extends about the opening of the housing.

19. The oven appliance of claim 14 , further comprising an air handler positioned within the venting channel of the casing and configured for drawing the cooking fumes into the venting channel at the entrance of the venting channel.
