Abstract

An oven appliance includes a baking stone positioned within a housing at a bottom portion of a cooking chamber. An inlet of an air duct is positioned at a front portion of the housing, and an outlet of the air duct is positioned at a rear portion of the housing and is contiguous with ambient air about the housing. An air handler is configured for urging the ambient air about the housing through the air duct.

Claims (26)

1. An oven appliance, comprising:

a housing defining an open cooking chamber, the open cooking chamber contiguous with ambient atmosphere about the housing via an opening defined by the housing at a front portion of the housing, the housing further defining an air duct having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet of the air duct positioned at a front portion of the housing, the outlet of the air duct positioned at a rear portion of the housing and contiguous with the ambient air about the housing;

a baking stone positioned within the housing at a bottom portion of the open cooking chamber;

an air handler positioned proximate the air duct of the housing, the air handler configured for urging the ambient air about the housing through the air duct; and

a casing defining a venting channel, the venting channel extending between an entrance and an exit, the entrance of the venting channel positioned over the opening of the housing, the exit of the venting channel positioned above the entrance of the venting channel, the exit of the venting channel positioned such that the exit of the venting channel is exposed to ambient atmosphere about the housing, the exit of the venting channel configured for directing air from the venting channel into the ambient atmosphere about the housing.

2. The oven appliance of claim 1 , further comprising a smoke reduction catalyst positioned within the venting channel of the casing.

3. The oven appliance of claim 1 , wherein the casing defines an air plenum that is contiguous with the ambient air about the housing and the entrance of the air duct, the entrance of the air duct extending along a height of the housing at the front portion of the housing, the exit of the air duct extending along the height of the housing at the rear portion of the housing.

4. The oven appliance of claim 3 , further comprising a seal extending between the housing at an interface between the air plenum of the casing and the entrance of the air duct.

5. The oven appliance of claim 3 , wherein the entrance of the air duct comprises a series of holes extending along the height of the housing at the front portion of the housing.

6. The oven appliance of claim 1 , wherein the casing defines an air plenum that is contiguous with the ambient air about the housing, the air handler positioned within the air plenum of the casing the air handler configured for drawing the ambient air about the housing into the air plenum of the casing.

7. The oven appliance of claim 1 , further comprising insulation disposed within the housing between the cooking chamber and the air duct.

8. An oven appliance, comprising:

a housing defining a cooking chamber, the housing also defining an air duct having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet of the air duct positioned at a front portion of the housing, the outlet of the air duct positioned at a rear portion of the housing and contiguous with ambient air about the housing;

an upper heating element array positioned within the housing at a top portion of the cooking chamber;

a baking stone positioned within the housing at a bottom portion of the cooking chamber;

a lower heating element array positioned within the housing below the baking stone adjacent the bottom portion of the cooking chamber;

an air handler positioned proximate the air duct of the housing, the air handler configured for urging the ambient air about the housing through the air duct; and

a casing defining a venting channel, the venting channel extending between an entrance and an exit, the entrance of the venting channel positioned over an opening of the housing at a front portion of the housing, the exit of the venting channel positioned above the entrance of the venting channel, the exit of the venting channel positioned such that the exit of the venting channel is exposed to ambient atmosphere about the housing, the exit of the venting channel configured for directing air from the venting channel into the ambient atmosphere about the housing.

9. The oven appliance of claim 8 , further comprising a smoke reduction catalyst positioned within the venting channel of the casing.

10. The oven appliance of claim 8 , wherein the casing defines an air plenum that is contiguous with the ambient air about the housing and the entrance of the air duct, the entrance of the air duct extending along a height of the housing at the front portion of the housing.

11. The oven appliance of claim 10 , further comprising a seal extending between the housing at an interface between the air plenum of the casing and the entrance of the air duct.

12. The oven appliance of claim 8 , wherein the casing defines an air plenum that is contiguous with the ambient air about the housing, the air handler positioned within the air plenum of the casing the air handler configured for drawing the ambient air about the housing into the air plenum of the casing.

13. The oven appliance of claim 12 , wherein the air handler is positioned at a bottom portion of the casing.

14. The oven appliance of claim 8 , further comprising insulation disposed within the housing between the cooking chamber and the air duct.

15. The oven appliance of claim 8 , wherein the entrance of the air duct extends along a height of the housing at the front portion of the housing.

16. The oven appliance of claim 8 , wherein no door is positioned at the opening of the housing such that the opening of the housing is exposed to the ambient atmosphere about the housing.
