Abstract

A liquid crystal display device having a uniform gap between a TFT substrate and a CF substrate even in cases where a sealant is to be applied to a slim frame formed on the outside of the effective display area is provided. A liquid crystal display device includes an effective display area, a color resist coated area, and a seal area which overlaps the color resist coated area and in which a sealant for sealing liquid crystal is provided, wherein the color resist coated area overlapping the seal area has slits formed therein.

Claims (36)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising,

spacers,

an effective display area,

a resin black layer that forms a solid area around the effective display area,

a color resist area formed on the resin black layer that has the solid area around the effective display area and has the same shape as the solid area of the resin black layer, and

a seal area including a sealant for sealing liquid crystal,

wherein the color resist area comprises a color resist dot-patterned area,

wherein the spacers are formed on the color resist dot-patterned area,

wherein the color resist dot-patterned area overlaps at least a portion of the seal area.

2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the color resist dot-patterned area has a plurality of slits,

wherein the slits are formed in a position in which the spacers are not formed,

wherein the dot-patterned is formed by the slits.

3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the slits each have a width in a range of 20 μm to 100 μm and a length in a range of 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm.

4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the slits are formed in a grid-like pattern.

5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the slits overlap at least a portion of the seal area.

6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the slits are formed to intersect the seal area.

7. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the color resist area is also between the seal area and the effective display area,

wherein the color resist area has the slits.

8. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the width of each of the slits is greater than a width of the seal area.

9. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the slits are not formed in the resin black layer.

10. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , further comprising a first substrate including a TFT formed thereon and a second substrate including the color resist area formed thereon,

wherein a gap between the first substrate and the second substrate is defined by a height of the spacers.

11. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the spacers are positioned in both the effective display area and the color resist area and are formed of the same material.

12. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,

wherein a distance between color resist dot-patterns of the color resist dot-patterned area is in a range of 20 μm to 100 μm.

13. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,

wherein an outer end of the color resist area is closer to the effective display area than an outer end of the seal area.
