Abstract

A method of reviewing geo-coded information at a geographic information system is disclosed. The method may include receiving information identifying a geo-located object from a submitter of the object, receiving information identifying the location of the geo-located object from the submitter, and receiving a request from a user of the geographic information system for one or more geo-located objects that includes the submitted geo-located object, and transmitting information for permitting display of the geo-located object to the user of the geographic information system.

Claims (37)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, by one or more computing devices, through a network-accessible interface, information identifying a three-dimensional model;

receiving, by the one or more computing devices, information identifying a geographical location of the three-dimensional model, the geographical location geo-locating the three-dimensional model on a geography;

storing, by the one or more computing devices, the geo-located three-dimensional model in a model database with a plurality of other geo-located models; and

forming, by the one or more computing devices, an association between topographical image information representing the geographical location and the geo-located three-dimensional model, wherein the association locates the geo-located three-dimensional model in context within and overlaid on a representation of the geographical location.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a request submitted by a client device, the request including information identifying the geographical location; and

causing, by the one or more computing devices, topographical image information representing the geographical location in association with the geo-located three-dimensional model to be delivered to the client device that submitted the request.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the information identifying the three-dimensional model comprises information defining the three-dimensional model in association with the geographical location and is transmitted in an XML format.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the information identifying the geographical location of the three-dimensional model includes a placemark that identifies the location of the information defining the three-dimensional model and a link directed to the information defining the three-dimensional model, wherein selection of the link causes the three-dimensional model to be downloaded to a requesting client device.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , further comprising storing and transmitting, with the one or more computing devices, an image of the three-dimensional model, wherein the image is formatted so that selection of the image by a user causes the three-dimensional model to be displayed on the requesting client device.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising associating advertising with the geo-located three-dimensional model for display on the three-dimensional geo-located model.

7. A system comprising:

one or more computing devices configured to:

receive through a network-accessible interface, information identifying a three-dimensional model;

receive information identifying a geographical location of the three-dimensional model, the geographical location geo-locating the three-dimensional model on a geography;

store the geo-located three-dimensional model in a model database with a plurality of other geo-located models; and

form an association between topographical image information representing the geographical location and the geo-located three-dimensional model, wherein the association locates the geo-located three-dimensional model in context within and overlaid on a representation of the geographical location.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the information identifying the three-dimensional model comprises information defining the three-dimensional model in association with the geographical location and is transmitted in an XML format.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the information identifying the geographical location of the three-dimensional model includes a placemark that identifies the location of the information defining the three-dimensional model and a link directed to the information defining the three-dimensional model, wherein selection of the link causes the three-dimensional model to be downloaded to a requesting client device.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more computing devices are further configured to store and transmit an image of the three-dimensional model, wherein the image is formatted so that selection of the image by a user causes the three-dimensional model to be displayed on the requesting client device.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more computing devices are further configured to associate advertising with the geo-located three-dimensional model for display on the three-dimensional geo-located model.

12. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, by one or more computing devices, information identifying a three-dimensional model;

receiving, by the one or more computing devices, information identifying a geographical location of the three-dimensional model, the geographical location geo-locating the three-dimensional model on a geography;

storing, by the one or more computing devices, the geo-located three-dimensional model in a model database with a plurality of other geo-located models; and

forming, by the one or more computing devices, an association between image information representing the geographical location and the geo-located three-dimensional model, wherein the association locates the geo-located three-dimensional model in context within and overlaid on a representation of the geographical location.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a request submitted by a client device, the request including information identifying the geographical location; and

causing, by the one or more computing devices, image information representing the geographical location in association with the geo-located three-dimensional model to be delivered to the client device that submitted the request.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the information identifying the three-dimensional model comprises information defining the three-dimensional model in association with the geographical location.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the information is transmitted in an XML format.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the information identifying the geographical location of the three-dimensional model includes a placemark that identifies the location of the information defining the three-dimensional model and a link directed to the information defining the three-dimensional model, wherein selection of the link causes the three-dimensional model to be downloaded to a requesting client device.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising storing and transmitting, with the one or more computing devices, an image of the three-dimensional model.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the image of the three-dimensional model is formatted so that selection of the image by a user causes the three-dimensional model to be displayed on the requesting client device.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , further comprising associating advertising with the geo-located three-dimensional model for display on the three-dimensional geo-located model.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the image information comprises satellite image information, map image information, topographical image information, or combinations thereof.
