Abstract

A mobile device receives an indication of a user request to initiate a payment. The mobile device provides a user interface requesting transaction information corresponding to the payment. The mobile device receives transaction data entered by the user via the user interface. In response to a determination made by the mobile device that a connection to a payment provider cannot be established. A payment request is stored at the mobile device. The payment request corresponds to the transaction data. In response to a subsequent determination made by the mobile device that a connection to the payment provider can be established. The payment request is sent to the payment provider. The payment request is configured to initiate the payment.

Claims (39)

1 . A method of performing financial transactions, comprising:

receiving, by a mobile device, an indication of a user request to initiate a payment;

provide, by the mobile device, a user interface requesting transaction information corresponding to the payment;

receive, by the mobile device, transaction data entered by the user via the user interface;

in response to determining, by the mobile device, that a connection to a payment provider cannot be established, storing a payment request at the mobile device, the payment request corresponding to the transaction data; and

in response to subsequently determining, by the mobile device, that a connection to the payment provider can be established, sending the payment request to the payment provider, wherein the payment request is configured to initiate the payment.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is displayed on a touchscreen.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising: receiving a notification displayed on the touchscreen informing the user that the payment request has been processed by a remote server of the payment provider.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the connection to the payment provider cannot be established comprises detecting a loss of an Internet connectivity on the mobile device.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting a power outage.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting an interruption in Internet service from an Internet service provider.

7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting a non-existent cellular coverage.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the connection to the payment provider cannot be established comprises detecting a connection problem with a remote server of the payment provider.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sending of the payment request comprises sending a device identifier of the mobile device to a remote server of the payment provider.

10 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:

receiving, by a touchscreen user interface of a smartphone or a tablet of a first user, an electronic payment request from the first user to pay a second user;

detecting, via the smartphone or the tablet, a loss of Internet connection for the smartphone or tablet;

storing, in response to the detection of the loss of Internet connection to the smartphone or the tablet, the electronic payment request on a local memory of the smartphone or the tablet;

determining, after the storing, that the Internet connection to the smartphone or the tablet is available; and

transmitting, in response to the determining, the electronic payment request that is stored on the local memory of the smartphone or tablet to a remote electronic server of a payment provider.

11 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise: receiving, through the touchscreen user interface of the smartphone or the tablet, an electronic notification that the electronic payment request has been processed by the remote electronic server of the payment provider.

12 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the detecting comprises detecting the loss of the Internet connection to the smartphone or the tablet due to one of the following reasons: a power outage, an interruption in Internet service from a carrier, non-existent cellular coverage, weak cellular coverage, or problems with a site of the payment provider.

13 . A mobile device, comprising:

a touchscreen display;

a transceiver;

a non-transitory memory storing instructions; and

one or more hardware processors coupled to the non-transitory memory and configured to read instructions from the non-transitory memory to cause the mobile device to perform the steps of:

receiving, via the touchscreen display, an indication of a user request to initiate a payment;

provide, on the touchscreen display, a user interface requesting transaction information corresponding to the payment;

receive, via the touchscreen display, transaction data entered by the user via the user interface;

in response to determining, at least in part by the transceiver, that a connection to a payment provider cannot be established, storing a payment request at the non-transitory memory storage, the payment request corresponding to the transaction data;

in response to subsequently determining, at least in part by the transceiver, that a connection to the payment provider can be established, sending the payment request to the payment provider, wherein the payment request is configured to initiate the payment.

14 . The mobile device of claim 13 , wherein the steps further comprise: receiving a notification displayed on the touchscreen interface informing the user that the payment request has been processed by a remote server of the payment provider.

15 . The mobile device of claim 13 , wherein the determining that the connection to the payment provider cannot be established comprises detecting a loss of an Internet connectivity on the mobile device.

16 . The mobile device of claim 15 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting a power outage.

17 . The mobile device of claim 15 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting an interruption in Internet service from an Internet service provider.

18 . The mobile device of claim 15 , wherein the detecting the loss of the Internet connectivity comprises detecting a non-existent cellular coverage.

19 . The mobile device of claim 13 , wherein the determining that the connection to the payment provider cannot be established comprises detecting a connection problem with a remote server of the payment provider.

20 . The mobile device of claim 13 , wherein the sending of the payment request comprises sending a device identifier of the mobile device to a remote server of the payment provider.
