Abstract

Provided are an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery, and a lithium secondary battery containing the same, wherein the electrolyte for a secondary battery has significantly excellent high-temperature stability, low-temperature discharge capacity, and life cycle characteristics.

Claims (21)

1. An electrolyte for a secondary battery, comprising:

a lithium salt;

a non-aqueous organic solvent; and

a boron derivative represented by the following Chemical Formula 2:

in Chemical Formula 2,

R 11 to R 14 are each independently (C 1 -C 10 )alkyl substituted with at least one halogen;

A is —(CR 15 R 16 ) n —, R 15 and R 16 are each independently hydrogen or (C1-C10)alkyl, and n is an integer of 1 to 4.

2. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 1 , wherein the boron derivative represented by Chemical Formula 2 is selected from compounds having the following structures:

3. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 1 , wherein the boron derivative is contained at a content of 0.1 to 5 wt % based on a total weight of the electrolyte.

4. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 1 , further comprising: one or two or more additives selected from the group consisting of oxalatoborate-based compounds, carbonate-based compounds substituted with fluorine, vinylidene carbonate-based compounds, and sulfinyl group-containing compounds.

5. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 4 , wherein the oxalatoborate-based compound(s) are selected from the group consisting of lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate (LiFOB), and lithium bis(oxalato)borate (LiB(C 2 O 4 ) 2 , LiBOB).

6. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 4 , wherein the carbonate-based compound substituted with fluorine is fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC).

7. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 4 , wherein the vinylidene carbonate-based compound(s) are selected from the group consisting of vinylene carbonate (VC) and vinylethylene carbonate (VEC).

8. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 4 , wherein the sulfinyl group-containing compound(s) are selected from the group consisting of divinyl sulfone, ethylene sulfite, propylene sulfite, diallyl sulfonate, ethane sultone, propane sultone (PS), butane sultone, ethene sultone, butene sultone, and propene sultone (PRS).

9. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 4 , wherein the additive is contained at a content of 0.1 to 5.0 wt % based on a total weight of the electrolyte.

10. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 1 , wherein the non-aqueous organic solvent is selected from the group consisting of cyclic carbonate-based solvents, linear carbonate-based solvents, and a mixed solvent thereof.

11. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 10 , wherein the cyclic carbonate is selected from the group consisting of ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, butylene carbonate, vinylene carbonate, vinylethylene carbonate, fluoroethylene carbonate, and a mixture thereof, and the linear carbonate is selected from the group consisting of dimethyl carbonate, diethyl carbonate, dipropyl carbonate, ethyl methyl carbonate, methyl propyl carbonate, methyl isopropyl carbonate, ethyl propyl carbonate, and a mixture thereof.

12. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 10 , wherein the non-aqueous organic solvent is a mixed solvent in which the linear carbonate solvent and the cyclic carbonate solvent are mixed at a mixed volume ratio of 1 to 9:1.

13. The electrolyte for a secondary battery of claim 1 , wherein the lithium salt is one or two or more selected from the group consisting of LiPF 6 , LiBF 4 , LiClO 4 , LiSbF 6 , LiAsF 6 , LiN(SO 2 C 2 F 5 ) 2 , LiN(CF 3 SO 2 ) 2 , LiN(SO 3 C 2 F 5 ) 2 , LiN(SO 2 F) 2 , LiCF 3 SO 3 , LiC 4 F 9 SO 3 , LiC 6 H 5 SO 3 , LiSCN, LiAlO 2 , LiAlCl 4 , LiN(C x F 2x+1 SO 2 )(C y F 2y+1 SO 2 ) (here, x and y are natural numbers), LiCl, LiI, and LiB(C 2 O 4 ) 2 .
