Abstract

In an example implementation, a system groups a first playback device and a second playback device into first player group. The system associates the first player group with a first playback queue that includes items for playback by the first player group. The first and second playback devices are configured to play items from the first playback queue while in the first player group. The system associates a third playback device with a second playback queue that includes items for playback by the second playback device. Thereafter, the system groups the first, second and third playback devices to form a second player group such that each of the first, second, and third playback devices are configured to play items from the second playback queue. The system removes the first playback device from the second player group and automatically associates the first playback device with the first playback queue.

Claims (46)

1. A method comprising:

grouping a first playback device and a second playback device to form a first player group;

associating the first player group with a first playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the first player group, wherein each of the first playback device and the second playback device are configured to play items from the first playback queue while the first playback device and the second playback device are in the first player group;

associating a third playback device with a second playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the second playback device;

after associating the first player group with the first playback queue and the third playback device with the second playback queue, grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device to form a second player group, wherein grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device comprises assigning the second playback queue to the second player group, wherein each of the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are configured to play items from the second playback queue while the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are in the second player group;

removing the first playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the first playback device from the second player group, the first playback device with the first playback queue, wherein the first playback queue persists without association with a playback device from a time prior to automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue comprises automatically reinstating the first playback queue for playback by the first playback device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first playback queue persists without association with a playback device for a time after forming the second player group and prior to the reinstating.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing the association of the first playback queue with the first player group to be maintained after forming the second player group.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

removing the second playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the second playback device from the second player group, the second playback device with the first playback queue.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first playback device is configured to remotely access the first playback queue after the removal of the first playback device from the second player group.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

automatically playing the first playback queue upon the automatic associating of the first playback device with the first playback queue.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first playback queue resides on the third playback device.

9. A system comprising one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media comprising instructions that when executed by one or more processors cause the system to perform a method comprising:

grouping a first playback device and a second playback device to form a first player group;

associating the first player group with a first playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the first player group, wherein each of the first playback device and the second playback device are configured to play items from the first playback queue while the first playback device and the second playback device are in the first player group;

associating a third playback device with a second playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the second playback device;

after associating the first player group with the first playback queue and the third playback device with the second playback queue, grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device to form a second player group, wherein grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device comprises assigning the second playback queue to the second player group, wherein each of the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are configured to play items from the second playback queue while the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are in the second player group;

removing the first playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the first playback device from the second player group, the first playback device with the first playback queue, wherein the first playback queue persists without association with a playback device from a time prior to automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue comprises automatically reinstating the first playback queue for playback by the first playback device.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first playback queue persists without association with a playback device for a time after forming the second player group and prior to the reinstating.

12. The system of claim 9 , further comprising causing the association of the first playback queue with the first player group to be maintained after forming the second player group.

13. The system of claim 9 , the method further comprising:

removing the second playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the second playback device from the second player group, the second playback device with the first playback queue.

14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first playback device is configured to remotely access the first playback queue after the removal of the first playback device from the second player group.

15. The system of claim 9 , the method further comprising:

automatically playing the first playback queue upon the automatic associating of the first playback device with the first playback queue.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first playback queue resides on the third playback device.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including a computer program which, when executed by a processor, implements a method, the method comprising:

grouping a first playback device and a second playback device to form a first player group;

associating the first player group with a first playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the first player group, wherein each of the first playback device and the second playback device are configured to play items from the first playback queue while the first playback device and the second playback device are in the first player group;

associating a third playback device with a second playback queue that includes one or more items for playback by the second playback device;

after associating the first player group with the first playback queue and the third playback device with the second playback queue, grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device to form a second player group, wherein grouping the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device comprises assigning the second playback queue to the second player group, wherein each of the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are configured to play items from the second playback queue while the first playback device, the second playback device, and the third playback device are in the second player group;

removing the first playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the first playback device from the second player group, the first playback device with the first playback queue, wherein the first playback queue persists without association with a playback device from a time prior to automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein automatically associating the first playback device with the first playback queue comprises automatically reinstating the first playback queue for playback by the first playback device.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , further comprising causing the association of the first playback queue with the first player group to be maintained after forming the second player group.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , the method further comprising:

removing the second playback device from the second player group; and

automatically associating, upon removal of the second playback device from the second player group, the second playback device with the first playback queue.
