Abstract

A system and method for associating videos with geographic locations is disclosed. The system comprises a communication module, a location module, a tagging module and a database association module. The communication module receives a video uploaded by a content provider and a set of video data describing the video. The location module determines that the video describes a geographic location included in a geographic map based at least in part on the video data. The tagging module determines one or more travelling tags for the video based at least in part on the video data. The database association module associates the video and the one or more travelling tags with the geographic location so that the video with the one or more travelling tags is included in the geographic map.

Claims (53)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a search query indicating a first geographic location;

determining that a plurality of first videos are associated with a first area within a geographic map for the first geographic location and that a plurality of second videos are associated with a second area within the geographic map for the first geographic location;

calculating a first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map;

calculating a second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map; and

generating, by one or more processors, graphical data for display of the geographical map comprising a heat map, wherein the heat map comprises a first graphical element that represents the first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map and a second graphical element that represents the second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map, wherein the first graphical element is different than the second graphical element, and wherein the difference between the first graphical element and the second graphical element indicates that the first density is different than the second density.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a user selection describing a user selected tag; and

determining that the first videos and the second videos are associated with the user selected tag.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a first route comprising the first geographic location;

calculating, relative to the first geographic location, a first popularity for the first route based on first interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at one or more systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generating the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the first route and the first popularity for the first route.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

identifying a second route comprising a second geographic location within the geographic map;

calculating, relative to the second geographic location, a second popularity for the second route based on second interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at the systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generating the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the second route and the second popularity for the second route.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first interactions and the second interactions comprise a number of views for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of like indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of dislike indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, or a number of comments for ones of the first videos and the second videos.

6. A system comprising:

an interface to receive a search query indicating a first geographic location; and

one or more processors configured to communicate with the interface to:

determine that a plurality of first videos are associated with a first area within a geographic map for the first geographic location and that a plurality of second videos are associated with a second area within the geographic map for the first geographic location,

calculate a first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map,

calculate a second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map, and

generate graphical data for display of the geographical map comprising a heat map, wherein the heat map comprises a first graphical element that represents the first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map and a second graphical element that represents the second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map, wherein the first graphical element is different than the second graphical element, and wherein the difference between the first graphical element and the second graphical element indicates that the first density is different than the second density.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the interface is further to receive a user selection describing a user selected tag, and wherein the processors are further to determine that the first videos and the second videos are associated with the user selected tag.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the processors are further to:

identify a first route comprising the first geographic location;

calculate, relative to the first geographic location, a first popularity for the first route based on first interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at one or more systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generate the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the first route and the first popularity for the first route.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the processors are further to:

identify a second route comprising a second geographic location within the geographic map;

calculate, relative to the second geographic location, a second popularity for the second route based on second interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at the systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generate the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the second route and the second popularity for the second route.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first interactions and the second interactions comprise a number of views for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of like indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of dislike indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, or a number of comments for ones of the first videos and the second videos.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the processors to:

receive a user selection describing a user selected tag;

determine that a plurality of first videos are associated with the user selected tag and a first area within a geographic map and that a plurality of second videos are associated with the user selected tag and a second area within the geographic map;

calculate a first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map;

calculate a second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map; and

generate, by the processors, graphical data for display of the geographical map comprising a heat map, wherein the heat map comprises a first graphical element that represents the first density of the first videos for the first area within the geographic map and a second graphical element that represents the second density of the second videos for the second area within the geographic map, wherein the first graphical element is different than the second graphical element, and wherein the difference between the first graphical element and the second graphical element indicates that the first density is different than the second density.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the instructions are further to cause the processors to:

receive a search query indicating a first geographic location; and

determine that the first videos and the second videos are associated with the geographic map for the first geographic location.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the instructions are further to cause the processors to:

identify a first route comprising the first geographic location;

calculate, relative to the first geographic location, a first popularity for the first route based on first interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at one or more systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generate the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the first route and the first popularity for the first route.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further to cause the processors to:

identify a second route comprising a second geographic location;

calculate, relative to the second geographic location, a second popularity for the second route based on second interactions with ones of the first videos and the second videos by multiple user accounts at the systems that host the first videos and the second videos; and

generate the graphical data further for display of the geographical map comprising a representation of the second route and the second popularity for the second route.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the first interactions and the second interactions comprise a number of views for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of like indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, a number of dislike indications for ones of the first videos and the second videos, or a number of comments for ones of the first videos and the second videos.
