Magnetic stimulation methods and devices for therapeutic treatments
Methods and devices producing time varying magnetic field have therapeutic uses. The device contains a coil made of insulated wires, an energy storage device, an energy source and a switch. The coil is flexibly attached in a case. The device has at least one blower for cooling the coil. The methods and devices can be used in for example in physiotherapy, neuropsychiatric therapy, aesthetic therapy, urology or urogynecology.
1. A magnetic stimulation device which produces a time varying magnetic field for treatment, wherein the device comprises:
a connection to an energy source, a switch, a coil, and an energy storage device and the energy storage device connected to the coil in order to provide energy to the coil; wherein the coil comprises insulated wires; and wherein a voltage drop in the energy storage device connected to the coil in order to provide energy to the coil, between successive amplitudes output from the energy storage device, is not higher than 21%.
2. The device of claim 1 where a voltage drop in the energy storage device between the successive amplitudes is not higher than 14%.
3. The device of claim 1 wherein the device comprises no protective resistor, protective circuit or switch between the connection to the energy source and the energy storage device.
4. The device of claim 1 wherein the switch is connected in parallel to the coil and the energy storage device, and the energy storage device is in series with the coil.
5. The device of claim 4 having no protective resistors, protective circuits or switch between the connection to the energy source and the energy storage device.
6. The device of claim 4 including a blower on one side of the coil and positioned to blow air across the coil in a direction parallel to a plane of the coil.
7. The device of claim 4 where the device enables treatment or successive treatments with peak to peak magnetic flux density of at least 1.5 T and with single magnetic pulses repeated at a repetition rate above 50 Hz.
8. The device of claim 7 wherein the device enables repetition rates above 100 Hz with a magnetic flux density causing at least partial contraction of a muscle of a patient.
9. The device of claim 1 wherein the coil is flexibly attached to a casing and spaced apart from the casing via multiple fastening points.
10. The device of claim 1 wherein the insulated wires have diameter lower than 0.5 mm.
11. The device of claim 1 where the device enables treatment or successive treatments with peak to peak magnetic flux density of at least 1.5 T at repetition rates above 70 Hz.
12. A magnetic stimulation device producing a time varying magnetic field for treatment, wherein the device comprises: a connection to an energy source, a switch, a coil, an energy storage device connected to provide energy to the coil; wherein the magnetic stimulation device enables treatment with peak to peak magnetic flux density of at least 1.5 T, and wherein the switch is connected in parallel to the coil and the energy storage device, and with the device having a voltage drop between successive amplitudes output from the energy storage device not higher than 21%.
13. The device of claim 12 , wherein the repetition rates are above 80 Hz.
14. The device of claim 12 , wherein the treatment lasts at least 10 seconds.
15. The device of claim 12 , wherein peak to peak magnetic flux density is at least 2.25 T.
16. The device of claim 12 further including a blower on one side of the coil and positioned to blow air across the coil in a direction parallel to a plane of the coil.
17. The device of claim 12 having a magnetic pulse repetition rate above 100 Hz and a magnetic flux density to cause at least partial muscle contraction in a muscle of a patient.
18. The device of claim 12 wherein the pulses are assembled into a triangular, rectangular or exponential shape.
19. A magnetic stimulation device producing a time varying magnetic field for treatment, comprising:
a connection to an energy source, a switch, a coil, an energy storage device connected to provide energy to the coil;
the magnetic stimulation device enables treatment with single magnetic pulses repeated at a repetition rate above 70 Hz;
the switch is connected in parallel to the coil and the energy storage device, and with the device having a voltage drop between successive amplitudes output from the energy storage device not higher than 21%.
20. The device of claim 19 wherein the coil is flexibly attached to a casing of the applicator and spaced apart from the casing via multiple fastening points.
21. The device of claim 19 wherein the device enables treatment or successive treatments with repetition rates above 70 Hz.
22. The device of claim 19 , wherein the device enables treatment or successive treatments with repetition rates above 80 Hz.
23. The device of claim 19 having a magnetic pulse repetition rate above 100 Hz and a magnetic flux density to cause at least partial muscle contraction in a muscle of a patient.
24. The device of claim 19 , wherein the treatment lasts at least 10 seconds.
25. The device of claim 19 further including a blower on one side of the coil and positioned to blow air across the coil in a direction parallel to a plane of the coil.
26. The device of claim 19 , wherein the pulses are assembled into a triangular, rectangular or exponential shape.
