Abstract

A power device including a power circuit assembly, a first plug assembly, and a second plug assembly is described herein. The first plug assembly is coupled to the power circuit assembly for transmitting power from a power source to the power circuit assembly at a first voltage. The second plug assembly is coupled to the power circuit assembly for controllably transmitting power from the power source to the power circuit assembly at a second voltage and at a third voltage.

2. A power device in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising a a second USB power connector port.

3. A power device in accordance with claim 2 , wherein the controller is configured to operate the power device between a first operating mode wherein the first plug assembly transmits power to the power circuit assembly and a second operating mode wherein the second plug assembly transmits power to the power circuit assembly.

4. A power device in accordance with claim 3 , further comprising a sensing assembly configured to sense a position of the first plug assembly, the controller is configured to operate the power device between the first operating mode and the second operating mode as a function of the sensed position of the first plug assembly.

5. A power device in accordance with claim 4 , wherein the sensing assembly includes a magnet coupled to the first plug assembly and a hall effect sensor for sensing a magnetic field being generated by the magnet.

6. A power device in accordance with claim 2 , wherein the power circuit assembly includes a plurality of switching devices coupled to a pair of capacitors.

7. A power device in accordance with claim 6 , wherein the controller is configured to operate the power circuit assembly to deliver an output power signal at a voltage level that is less than a voltage level of the input power received from the power source.

8. A power device in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising an input power disconnect assembly coupled to the first plug assembly and the power circuit assembly for transmitting input power from the first plug assembly to the power circuit assembly.

9. A power device in accordance with claim 8 , wherein the input power disconnect assembly includes a TRIAC device, the TRIAC device being operated in an on-state to deliver input power from the first plug assembly to the power circuit assembly and an off-state to electrically disconnect the first plug assembly from the power circuit assembly.

10. A power device in accordance with claim 1 , further comprising an LED circuit configured to operate an LED to notify a user of output power being delivered to the electrical device via the power circuit assembly.

11. A power device, comprising:

a housing;

a power circuit assembly positioned within the housing;

a first plug assembly coupled to the housing and configured to deliver input power from a power source to the power circuit assembly at a first voltage;

a second plug assembly coupled to the housing and configured to deliver input power from the power source to the power circuit assembly at a second voltage that is different from the first voltage;

at least one power connector port coupled to the housing for connecting the power circuit assembly to an electrical device, the at least one power connector port including a USB port; and

a controller configured to operate the power circuit assembly to selectively receive power from the first and the second plug assemblies.

12. A power device in accordance with claim 11 , further comprising a a second USB power connector port.

13. A power device in accordance with claim 12 , wherein the controller is configured to operate the power device between a first operating mode wherein the first plug assembly transmits power to the power circuit assembly and a second operating mode wherein the second plug assembly transmits power to the power circuit assembly.

14. A power device in accordance with claim 13 , further comprising a sensing assembly configured to sense a position of the first plug assembly, the controller is configured to operate the power device between the first operating mode and the second operating mode as a function of the sensed position of the first plug assembly.

15. A power device in accordance with claim 14 , wherein the sensing assembly includes a magnet coupled to the first plug assembly and a hall effect sensor for sensing a magnetic field being generated by the magnet.

16. A power device in accordance with claim 12 , wherein the power circuit assembly includes a plurality of switching devices coupled to a pair of capacitors, the controller is configured to operate the power circuit assembly to deliver an output power signal at a voltage level that is less than a voltage level of the input power received from the power source.

17. A power device in accordance with claim 11 , further comprising an input power disconnect assembly coupled to the first plug assembly and the power circuit assembly for transmitting input power from the first plug assembly to the power circuit assembly.

18. A power device in accordance with claim 17 , wherein the input power disconnect assembly includes a TRIAC device, the TRIAC device being operated in an on-state to deliver input power from the first plug assembly to the power circuit assembly and an off-state to electrically disconnect the first plug assembly from the power circuit assembly.

19. A power device in accordance with claim 11 , further comprising an LED circuit configured to operate an LED to notify a user of output power being delivered to the electrical device via the power circuit assembly.
