Customizable and low-latency interactive computer-aided translation
View Patent ↗Methods and systems for computer-aided translation include receiving a document having one or more sentences to be translated; generating a suggestion pool of possible translations for each sentence in the document; providing a best suggestion from the suggestion pool to a user for a sentence being translated; updating the suggestion pool based on the user's input of a translation prefix; and providing an updated best suggestion from the updated suggestion pool to the user for the sentence being translated.
1. A method for computer-aided translation, comprising:
generating a suggestion pool of possible translations for each sentence in a document using a processor;
providing a single best suggestion from the suggestion pool to a user for a sentence being translated;
updating the suggestion pool based on the user's input of a translation prefix; and
providing a single updated best suggestion from the updated suggestion pool to the user.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the suggestion pool comprises using general and customized translation models.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the customized model is built using in-domain data for a domain of the document.
4. The method of claim 2 , further comprising updating the customized translation model based on a completed sentence translation.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suggestion pool is a word lattice that includes a proper subset of possible translations having a likelihood above a threshold.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein updating the suggestion pool comprises removing suggestions that do not match the translation prefix.
7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
transmitting the suggestion pool to a client device, wherein the suggestion pool is generated at a server device; and
transmitting a request for additional possible translations based on the translation prefix if the prefix deviates from possible translations in the suggestion pool.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the translation prefix comprises translation information entered manually by the user.
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the translation prefix comprises an accepted portion of the best suggestion.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suggestion pool of possible translations for each sentence comprises a pruned translation lattice for each sentence that compactly represents a set of possible phrase translations of a sentence being translated.
11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a user interface that displays the single best suggestion in a field that the user can enter text into to provide the translation prefix.
