Abstract

A system for wound treatment includes adjunctive wound therapy devices and substrates comprising multiple first reservoirs and multiple second reservoirs. Selected ones of the multiple first reservoirs include a reducing agent, and first reservoir surfaces of selected ones of the multiple first reservoirs are proximate to a first substrate surface. Selected ones of the multiple second reservoirs include an oxidizing agent, and second reservoir surfaces of selected ones of the multiple second reservoirs are proximate to the first substrate surface.

Claims (18)

1. A system for treating a wound comprising;

a device for providing adjunctive wound therapy, said therapy comprising Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) or Topical Oxygen Therapy (TOT); and

a substrate comprising biocompatible electrodes comprising a first array comprising a pattern of microcells formed from a first conductive material, and a second array comprising a pattern of microcells formed from a second conductive material, wherein said electrodes are capable of generating at least one of a Low Level Electric Field (LLEF), or when said first and second arrays are introduced to an electrolytic solution, a Low Level Micro Current (LLMC) of between 1 and 200 micro-amperes.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the first conductive material and the second conductive material comprise the same material.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the first and second array each comprise a discrete circuit.

4. The system of claim 3 , further comprising a power source.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the first array and the second array spontaneously generate a LLEF.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the LLMC is between 1 and 100 micro-amperes.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the LLMC is between 100 and 200 micro-amperes.

8. The system of claim 7 wherein the LLMC is between 150 and 200 micro-amperes.

9. A method for treating a wound comprising securing a wound dressing in a sealed environment adjacent the wound and applying HBOT or TOT in the sealed environment, wherein the wound dressing comprises a pliable dressing material comprising on its surface a multi-array matrix of biocompatible microcells, said matrix comprising:

a first array forming a pattern of microcells formed from a first conductive material, and

a second array forming a pattern of microcells formed from a second conductive material, such conductive material capable of defining at least one voltaic cell for spontaneously generating at least one electrical current with the metal species of the first array when said first and second arrays are electrically connected an electrolytic solution, wherein said electric current is between 1 and 200 micro-amperes.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the method for treating a wound comprises applying HBOT.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the method for treating a wound comprises applying TOT.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the electric current is between 50 and 150 micro-amperes.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein the electric current is between 1 and 100 micro-amperes.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein the electric current is between 100 and 200 micro-amperes.
