Abstract

Methods and devices are discussed where a common bit loading table is constructed from minimum gain from a plurality of bit loading tables for different combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode.

Claims (24)

1. A method for providing a common bit loading table for multiple customer premises equipment (CPEs) in a network using discontinuous operation for transmitting data in a vector crosstalk cancellation environment, the method comprising the steps of:

determining, during one of a system initialization or a line joining, a set of bit loading tables for combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode; and

selecting a minimum gain from each of the plurality of bit loading tables and constructing the common bit loading table from the minimum gains.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending a message to the CPEs that the common bit loading table is required to be formulated.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of the steps of getting a report of SNR (signal to noise ratio) from a CPE side during the line joining, or avoiding influence of crosstalk into an SNR measurement.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising calculating an optimized transmit power spectral density that satisfies spectral mask constraints for all combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a set of bit loading tables or constructing the common bit loading table comprises calculating a minimum bit loading of all combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode and assigning bits with respect to a minimum signal to noise ratio.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising a downstream transmit spectrum shaping in discontinuous operation.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting performance critical configurations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode, wherein a critical configuration is a configuration associated with a violation in one or more of a power spectral density, a power, a bit loading, or a signal to noise ratio.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising excluding critical configurations from constructing the common bit loading table or avoiding a critical configuration by transmitting idle symbols on at least one line being in a quiet mode.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising precomputing coefficients for different configurations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode, estimating required gains and determining a minimum gain to satisfy a predetermined spectral mask.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising predicting rates for different configurations based on a first estimation and an optimization following the first estimation.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising stopping discontinuous operations during the line joining for calculation of an optimized power spectral density.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in case of a joining line, performing a final bit loading in a downstream direction based on signal to noise ratio with a minimum configuration power spectral density and all lines active.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing a signal to noise ratio measurement by detecting an average error power, based on sync symbol and/or based on an orthogonal sequence, and using the signal to noise ratio measurement for online reconfiguration in showtime.

14. A device for providing a common bit loading table for multiple customer premises equipment (CPEs) in a network using discontinuous operation for transmitting data in a vector crosstalk cancellation environment, the device comprising a transceiver, and being adapted to:

determine, during one of a system initialization or a line joining, a set of bit loading tables for combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode; and

select a minimum gain from each of the plurality of bit loading tables and constructing the common bit loading table from the minimum gains.

15. The device of claim 14 , the device being adapted to send a message to the CPEs that the common bit loading table is required to be formulated.

16. The device of claim 14 , the device being adapted to calculate an optimized transmit power spectral density that satisfies spectral mask constraints for all combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode.

17. The device of claim 14 , wherein determining a set of bit loading tables or constructing the common bit loading table comprises calculating a minimum bit loading of all combinations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode and assigning bits with respect to a minimum signal to noise ratio.

18. The device of claim 14 , the device being adapted to detect performance critical configurations of lines being in a transmit or quiet mode, wherein a critical configuration is a configuration associated with a violation in one or more of a power spectral density, a power, a bit loading, or a signal to noise ratio.

19. The device of claim 18 , the device being adapted to exclude critical configurations from constructing the common bit loading table.

20. The device of claim 18 , the device being adapted to avoid a critical configuration by transmitting idle symbols on at least one line being in a quiet mode.
