Abstract

Systems and methods for recording multiple copies of a program are provided. The method may include receiving a user instruction to record a program. A determination may be made to record multiple copies of the program. In response to the determination, multiple copies of the program may be recorded. A user instruction to display the recorded program may be received. A copy of the program may be played back. The user may switch to another copy of the recorded program if the original copy lacks desirable recording attributes, or the interactive television application may automatically switch to another copy of the program.

Claims (29)

1. A method for presenting media with an interactive media application, the method comprising:

automatically scheduling a recording of multiple copies of media content at different transmission times, wherein the scheduling is performed before any one of the different transmission times, wherein a first copy of the multiple copies of media content is of a first quality and a second copy of the multiple copies of media content is of a second quality;

receiving a user request to generate a display of the media content;

selecting one of the multiple copies of the media content; and

generating a display of at least a portion of the selected copy of the media content.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein each copy of the multiple copies of media content is associated with a different transmission type.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting the one of the multiple copies of the media content based on determining that the one of the multiple copies of the media content has a desirable transmission type.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a number of copies to record for the program.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the number of copies is set in response to a user instruction.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the number of copies is determined based on a recording option associated with the program.

7. The method of claim 4 , further comprising prompting a user to select the number of copies.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising processing schedule data to determine the different transmission times.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user selection limiting how far in the future any one of the different transmission times may be.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining if any of the multiple copies of the media content have an undesirable transmission type.

11. A system for presenting media with an interactive media application, the system comprising control circuitry configured to:

automatically scheduling a recording of multiple copies of media content at different transmission times, wherein the scheduling is performed before any one of the different transmission times;

wherein at least one of the multiple copies of media content is of a first quality, and at least one of the multiple copies of media content is of a second quality;

receiving a user request to generate a display of the media content;

selecting one of the multiple copies of the media content; and

generating a display of at least a portion of the selected copy of the media content.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein each copy of the multiple copies of the media content is associated with a different transmission type.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to select the one of the multiple copies of the media content based on determining that the one of the multiple copies of the media content has a desirable transmission type.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine a number of copies to record for the program.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the number of copies is set in response to a user instruction.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the number of copies is determined based on a recording option associated with the program.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to prompt a user to select the number of copies.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to process schedule data to determine the different transmission times.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to receive a user selection limiting how far in the future any one of the different transmission times may be.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine if any of the multiple copies of the media content have an undesirable transmission type.
