Abstract

A viscose fiber comprises a fiber body including a regenerated cellulosic material and a plurality of microcapsules dispersed in the regenerated cellulosic material. The regenerated cellulosic material is derived from an organic plant material and the plurality of microcapsules containing a phase change material has a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 100° C., the phase change material providing thermal regulation based on at least one of absorption and release of latent heat at the transition temperature.

Claims (24)

1. A cellulosic article comprising:

a cellulosic matrix, the matrix including at least one organic compound and

a nanoscale containment structure;

wherein the nanoscale containment structure surrounds the at least one organic compound,

wherein the at least one organic compound is present in an amount of more than 10% by weight, based on the weight of the cellulosic matrix,

wherein the at least organic compound has a melting point of less than 100° C. and is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbons, waxes, oils, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, stearic anhydrides and alcohols, and

wherein the article has a latent heat of greater than 20 J/g in a temperature range from 15 to 45° C.

2. The cellulosic article of claim 1 , wherein the organic compound includes a paraffinic hydrocarbon having 16 to 22 carbon atoms.

3. The cellulosic article of claim 1 , wherein the organic compound includes a polyhydric alcohol.

4. The cellulosic article of claim 1 , wherein the organic compound includes one of a polymeric phase change material, a polyethylene glycol, a polyethylene oxide, a polytetramethylene glycol, and a polyester.

5. A cellulosic article comprising:

a cellulosic matrix, the matrix including at least one organic compound;

at least one of,

a nanoscale containment structure; and

an elongated member,

wherein the nanoscale containment structure surrounds the at least one organic compound,

wherein the at least one organic compound is present in an amount of more than 10% by weight, based on the weight of the cellulosic matrix,

wherein the at least organic compound has a melting point of less than 100° C. and is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbons, waxes, oils, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, stearic anhydrides and alcohols, and

wherein the article has a latent heat of greater than 20 J/g in a temperature range from 15 to 45° C.

6. The cellulosic article of claim 5 , wherein the latent heat of the article is in the range of 60 J/g to 400 J/g.

7. The cellulosic article of claim 5 , wherein the organic compound has a transition temperature in the range of 0° C. to 50° C.

8. The cellulosic article of claim 5 , wherein the organic material includes a paraffinic hydrocarbon.

9. The cellulosic article of claim 5 , wherein the organic compound includes a polyhydric alcohol.

10. The cellulosic article of claim 5 , wherein the organic compound includes one of a polyethylene glycol, a polyethylene oxide, a polytetramethylene glycol, and a polyester.
