Abstract

In a method for stimulation and treatment, a biological structure is stimulated by a high power time-varying magnetic field. The stimulation is followed by at least a partial muscle contraction. The methods can be used e.g. in physiotherapy, urology or urogynecology.

Claims (41)

31 . A method for a stimulation of a biological structure including:

a. placing a magnetic applicator proximate to at least a part of the patient's body;

b. transferring a magnetic stimulation signal from the magnetic applicator to a target biological structure;

c. generating an active response of the target biological structure wherein a repetition rate is at least 50 Hz, and a magnetic flux density is at least 0.5 T to cause (weakened) muscle exercising.

32 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the muscle is a deep muscle.

33 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the muscle is non-denervated.

34 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the stimulation causes at least partial muscle contraction of a muscle and/or change of rheological properties of synovial fluid for improving the movability of a joint.

35 . The method of claim 31 , wherein magnetic flux density is at least 1 T.

36 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the magnetic flux density is at least 2 T.

37 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the magnetic flux density is at least 3 T.

38 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 70 Hz.

39 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 90 Hz.

40 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 110 Hz.

41 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the treatment lasts at least 5 seconds.

42 . A method for a stimulation of a biological structure including:

a. placing a magnetic applicator proximate to at least a part of the patient's body;

b. transferring a modulated magnetic stimulation signal to a target biological structure;

c. generating an action potential in the target biological structure wherein a repetition rate is at least 50 Hz.

43 . The method of claim 42 , wherein the stimulation is followed by at least partial contraction of a muscle.

44 . A method of claim 42 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 120 Hz.

45 . A method of claim 42 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 150 Hz.

46 . A method of claim 42 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 200 Hz.

47 . A method of claim 42 , wherein a modulation is in repetition rate domain and/or magnetic flux density domain and/or combination of both.

48 . The method of claim 44 , wherein an envelope is generated.

49 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the envelope may be in different shapes.

50 . A method of claim 48 , wherein a magnetic flux density in the biological structure increases over a time interval.

51 . A method of claim 50 , wherein the method causes the stimulation of a denervated muscle while the contraction of health muscle is eliminated.

52 . A method for a stimulation of a biological structure including:

a. placing a magnetic applicator proximate to at least a part of the patient's body;

b. transferring a magnetic stimulation signal to a target biological structure;

c. generating an action potential in the target biological structure wherein a repetition rate is at least 100 Hz; and

wherein the stimulation causes myorelaxation effect.

53 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the stimulation is followed by at least partial contraction of a muscle.

54 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 110 Hz.

55 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 120 Hz.

56 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the repetition rate is at least 130 Hz

57 . The method of claim 52 , wherein at least an isometric contraction occurs during the stimulation.

58 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the adaptation for stimulation occurs.

59 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the method causes pain relief.

60 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the treatment lasts at least 5 seconds.
