Abstract

A system and method are provided for transferring data from a first mobile device to another device by determining a set comprising one or more items, initiating a first transfer of at least some data associated with at least one of the one or more items to the other device, detecting an interaction with the set, and enabling a second transfer of additional data associated with the set.

Claims (54)

1. A method of transferring data from a first mobile device associated with a first user to another device for sharing with at least a second mobile device associated with a second user that is different from the first user, the method comprising:

the first mobile device automatically predicting that at least one item stored on the first mobile device is likely to be shared with the second mobile device according to at least one criterion, wherein the automatic prediction is performed prior to one or more operations for transferring data to the second mobile being initiated;

the first mobile device selecting, based on the automatic prediction, the at least one item to be shared with at least another device, the another device being intermediate to the first mobile device and the second mobile device; and

the first mobile device transferring at least a portion of data associated with the at least one item to a shared space being displayed on the another device, the shared space being accessible by both the first mobile device and the second mobile device to respectively share data with other devices associated with other users and to obtain data from the shared space, where the data has been has been shared by one or more of the other devices, and wherein the shared space visually distinguishes data transferred from the first mobile device from data transferred from the second mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically predicting that the at least one item is likely to be shared with the second mobile device comprises:

identifying a plurality of items currently being presented on a display of the first mobile device, the plurality of items comprising the at least one item; and

identifying at least a subset of the plurality of items that is relevant to the second user of the second mobile device, the subset comprising the at least one item.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the first mobile device detecting an interaction with the at least one item on the first mobile device; and

after detecting the interaction, the first mobile device enabling a second transfer of at least an additional portion of the data associated with the at least one item to the shared space.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of data is transferred to an area of the shared space designated only for items shared by the first mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of data is simultaneously displayed on the first mobile device and the another device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the first mobile device identifying at least one item having been transferred from the second mobile device and currently being presented within the shared space; and

the first mobile device initiating transfer of the at least one item from the shared space to the first mobile device.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the first mobile device initiating transfer of the portion of data from the shared space to the second mobile device.

8. A first mobile device associated with a first user for transferring data from the first mobile device to another device for sharing with at least a second mobile device associated with a second user that is different from the first user, the first mobile device comprising:

a display;

memory; and

a processor, wherein the processor is to:

automatically predict that at least one item stored on the first mobile device is likely to be shared with the second mobile device according to at least one criterion, wherein the automatic prediction is performed prior to one or more operations for transferring data to the second mobile being initiated;

select, based on the automatic prediction, the at least one item to be shared with at least another device, the another device being intermediate to the first mobile device and the second mobile device;

transfer one or more portions of data associated with the at least one item to a shared space being displayed on the another device, the shared space being accessible by both the first mobile device and the second mobile device to respectively share data with other devices associated with other users and to obtain data from the shared space, where the data has been has been shared by one or more of the other devices, and wherein the shared space visually distinguishes data transferred from the first mobile device from data transferred from the second mobile device.

9. The first mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the processor automatically predicts that the at least one item is likely to be shared with the second mobile device by:

identifying a plurality of items currently being presented on a display of the first mobile device, the plurality of items comprising the at least one item; and

identifying at least a subset of the plurality of items that is relevant to the second user of the second mobile device, the subset comprising the at least one item.

10. The first mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further to:

detect an interaction with the at least one item on the first mobile device; and

after detecting the interaction, enable a second transfer of at least an additional portion of the data associated with the at least one item to the shared space.

11. The first mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the portion of data is transferred to an area of the shared space designated only for items shared by the first mobile device.

12. The first mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further to:

identify at least one item having been transferred from the second mobile device and currently being presented within the shared space; and

initiate transfer of the at least one item from the shared space to the first mobile device.

13. The first mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further to:

initiate transfer of the portion of data from the shared space to the second mobile device.

14. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising computer executable instructions for transferring data from a first mobile device associated with a first user to another device for sharing with at least a second mobile device associated with a second user that is different from the first user, the computer executable instructions comprising instructions for:

the first mobile device automatically predicting that at least one item stored on the first mobile device is likely to be shared with the second mobile device according to at least one criterion, wherein the automatic prediction is performed prior to one or more operations for transferring data to the second mobile being initiated;

the first mobile device selecting, based on the automatic prediction, the at least one item to be shared with at least another device, at least one item stored on the first mobile device to be shared with at least another device, the another device being intermediate to the first mobile device and the second mobile device; and

the first mobile device transferring at least a portion of data associated with the at least one item to a shared space being displayed on the another device, the shared space being accessible by both the first mobile device and the second mobile device to share data with devices associated with other users and to obtain data from the shared space, where the data has been has been shared by one or more of the other devices, and wherein the shared space visually distinguishes data transferred from the first mobile device from data transferred from the second mobile device.

15. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the computer executable instructions further comprise instructions for:

the first mobile device detecting an interaction with the at least one item on the first mobile device; and

after detecting the interaction, the first mobile device enabling a second transfer of at least an additional portion of the data associated with the at least one item to the shared space.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the portion of data is transferred to an area of the shared space designated only for items shared by the first mobile device.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the portion of data is simultaneously displayed on the first mobile device and the another device.

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the computer executable instructions further comprise instructions for:

the first mobile device identifying at least one item having been transferred from the second mobile device and currently being presented within the shared space; and

the first mobile device initiating transfer of the at least one item from the shared space to the first mobile device.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the computer executable instructions further comprise instructions for:

the first mobile device initiating transfer of the portion of data from the shared space to the second mobile device.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein

automatically predicting that the at least one item is likely to be shared with the second mobile device comprises:

identifying a plurality of items currently being presented on a display of the first mobile device, the plurality of items comprising the at least one item; and

identifying at least a subset of the plurality of items that is relevant to the second user of the second mobile device, the subset comprising the at least one item.
