Abstract

A method, computer program product, and infusion pump assembly for administering a sequential, multi-part, infusion event, wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a plurality of discrete infusion events. If a one-time infusion event is available to be administered, the administration of at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event is delayed. The one-time infusion event is administered.

Claims (36)

1. A method for delivering an infusible fluid through an infusion pump assembly, the method comprising:

administering, through processing logic of the infusion pump assembly, a sequential, multi-part, infusion event using the infusion pump assembly, wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a plurality of discrete infusion events;

determining, within the processing logic, whether a one-time infusion event is available to be administered; and

if a one-time infusion event is available to be administered, delaying the administration of at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event through the processing logic; and

administering, through the processing logic, the one-time infusion event using the infusion pump assembly during which the administration of at least the portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part infusion event is delayed.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

once the administration of the one-time infusion event is completed, administering the at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a basal infusion event.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes an extended bolus infusion event.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a normal bolus infusion event.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete infusion events includes a plurality of discrete infusion sub-events.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a plurality of one-time infusion sub-events.

8. An infusion pump assembly comprising:

a processor with processing logic configured to perform operations; and

a computer program product residing on a non-transitory computer readable medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

administering a sequential, multi-part, infusion event using the infusion pump assembly, wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a plurality of discrete infusion events;

determining, at the processor, whether a one-time infusion event is available to be administered; and

if a one-time infusion event is available to be administered, delaying the administration of at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential; multi-part, infusion event using the processor; and administering the one-time infusion event using the infusion pump assembly during which the administration of at least the portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event is delayed.

9. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 , wherein the computer program product further comprises instructions for:

once the administration of the one-time infusion event is completed, administering the at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event.

10. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a basal infusion event.

11. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes an extended bolus infusion event.

12. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a normal bolus infusion event.

13. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete infusion events includes a plurality of discrete infusion sub-events.

14. The infusion pump assembly of claim 8 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a plurality of one-time infusion sub-events.

15. An infusion pump assembly having a processor with processing logic configured to perform operations comprising:

administering a sequential, multi-part, infusion event using the infusion pump assembly, wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a plurality of discrete infusion events;

determining, at the processor, whether a one-time infusion event is available to be administered; and

if a one-time infusion event is available to be administered, delaying the administration of at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event using the processor; and administering the one-time infusion event using the infusion pump assembly during which the administration of at least the portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event is delayed.

16. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 , wherein the processor of the infusion pump assembly is further configured to perform operations comprising:

once the administration of the one-time infusion event is completed, administering the at least a portion of the plurality of discrete infusion events included within the sequential, multi-part, infusion event.

17. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes a basal infusion event.

18. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 wherein the sequential, multi-part, infusion event includes an extended bolus infusion event.

19. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a normal bolus infusion event.

20. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete infusion events includes a plurality of discrete infusion sub-events.

21. The infusion pump assembly of claim 15 wherein the one-time infusion event includes a plurality of one-time infusion sub-events.
