Abstract

Devices and methods are disclosed for delivering multiple medicaments from multiple reservoirs to a patient. The devices and methods may be configured to prevent or reduce the incidence of a user transferring a fluid to or from an incorrect reservoir.

Claims (42)

1. An infusion pump system, comprising:

a pump;

a multi-reservoir cartridge system configured to be selectively attachable to and detachable from the pump, the multi-reservoir cartridge system comprising:

a first fluid reservoir configured to contain a first medicament; and

a second fluid reservoir configured to contain a second medicament;

a first fluid reservoir interface configured to interface with the first fluid reservoir to facilitate delivery of the first medicament with the pump from the first fluid reservoir to a patient; and

a second fluid reservoir interface configured to interface with the second fluid reservoir to facilitate delivery of the second medicament with the pump from the second fluid reservoir to the patient,

wherein the first fluid reservoir interface and the second fluid reservoir interface are mechanically different from each other.

2. The infusion pump system of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface through which the pump can be controlled.

3. The infusion pump system of claim 1 , further comprising a first fluid tubing to deliver the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and a second fluid tubing to deliver the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

4. The infusion pump system of claim 1 , wherein the first fluid reservoir is configured to contain insulin as the first medicament and the second fluid reservoir is configured to contain glucagon as the second medicament.

5. The infusion pump system of claim 1 , wherein the pump is configured to independently dispense the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

6. The infusion pump system of claim 5 , wherein a dose of the first medicament delivered by the pump can be different from a dose of the second medicament delivered by the pump.

7. The infusion pump system of claim 1 , wherein the first fluid reservoir interface is configured to facilitate delivery of only the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second fluid reservoir interface is configured to facilitate delivery of only the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

8. An infusion pump system, comprising:

a first fluid reservoir configured to contain a first medicament;

a second fluid reservoir configured to contain a second medicament;

a pump configured to dispense the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir to a patient;

a first port configured to interface with the first fluid reservoir; and

a second port configured to interface with the second fluid reservoir,

wherein the first port and the second port are mechanically incompatible with each other.

9. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , wherein the first fluid reservoir and the second fluid reservoir are selectively detachable from being in communication with the pump.

10. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , further comprising a user interface through which the pump can be controlled.

11. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , further comprising a first fluid tubing to deliver the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and a second fluid tubing to deliver the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

12. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , wherein the first fluid reservoir is configured to contain insulin as the first medicament and the second fluid reservoir is configured to contain glucagon as the second medicament.

13. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , wherein the pump is configured to independently dispense the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

14. The infusion pump system of claim 13 , wherein a dose of the first medicament delivered by the pump can be different from a dose of the second medicament delivered by the pump.

15. The infusion pump system of claim 8 , wherein only the first port can interface with the first fluid reservoir and only the second port can interface with the second fluid reservoir.

16. An infusion pump system, comprising:

a first fluid reservoir configured to contain a first medicament;

a second fluid reservoir configured to contain a second medicament;

a pump configured to deliver the first medicament and the second medicament to a patient;

a first keyed port corresponding to the first fluid reservoir; and

a second keyed port corresponding to the second fluid reservoir,

wherein the first keyed port and the second keyed port are mechanically different from each other.

17. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , wherein the first fluid reservoir and the second fluid reservoir are selectively detachable from being in communication with the pump.

18. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , further comprising a user interface through which the pump can be controlled.

19. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , further comprising a first fluid tubing to deliver the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and a second fluid tubing to deliver the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

20. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , wherein the first fluid reservoir is configured to contain insulin as the first medicament and the second fluid reservoir is configured to contain glucagon as the second medicament.

21. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , wherein the pump is configured to independently dispense the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.

22. The infusion pump system of claim 21 , wherein a dose of the first medicament delivered by the pump can be different from a dose of the second medicament delivered by the pump.

23. The infusion pump system of claim 16 , wherein the first keyed port can facilitate delivery of only the first medicament from the first fluid reservoir and the second keyed port can facilitate delivery of only the second medicament from the second fluid reservoir.
