Systems and methods for ex-vivo organ care
View Patent ↗The invention provides, in various embodiments, systems, devices and methods relating to ex-vivo organ care. In certain embodiments, the invention relates to maintaining an organ ex-vivo at near-physiologic conditions.
1. A method of preserving an organ ex vivo, comprising
placing a heart in an organ chamber assembly, said organ chamber assembly comprising
a housing having a bottom and walls for containing the organ,
an intermediate lid for covering an opening to the housing for substantially enclosing the organ within the housing, the intermediate lid including a frame, a flexible membrane suspended within the frame, the flexible membrane containing sufficient membrane material to manipulate or examine the organ, and
an outer lid independently operable from the intermediate lid for covering, at least partially, the intermediate lid, and
placing the organ chamber assembly in an organ care system.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the organ chamber assembly comprises an electrode on a pad for sutureless contact with the organ.
3. The method of claim 1 , comprising examining or manipulating the organ indirectly through the flexible membrane.
4. The method of claim 2 , comprising manipulating the position of the organ indirectly through the flexible membrane to align the organ with the electrode.
