Abstract

The present application relates to a computer having a processor configured to execute a set of instructions to render a customized version of a restricted document object model. A restricted element in a document object model is identified and at least one rule associated with the restricted element is accessed. The at least one rule is applied to the restricted element to generate a modified document object model which is then rendered. A related computer-implemented method is also covered by the present application. The present application relates to server-side authentication techniques; content filtering based on user-specific and context-based requirements; and audit trail techniques.

Claims (43)

1. A method for obtaining audit information regarding user interaction with a web page via a browser, the method comprising:

accessing a web page from a web server;

parsing the web page into a document object model (DOM);

causing rendering of the DOM on a display as a rendered web page;

using a browser extension to listen for one or more user action DOM events derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server;

in response to the browser extension detecting a user action DOM event derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server, adding information about the user action DOM event to a configurable element within the DOM;

receiving a request for an audit trail from a server; and

returning the information about the user action DOM event in the configurable element within the DOM to the server in response to the receiving of the request for an audit trail.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user action DOM event is a user selecting an on-screen button in the rendered web page.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user action DOM event is a mouse click by the user in the rendered web page.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user action DOM event is keyboard input by the user in the rendered web page.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the returning includes serializing a plurality of pieces of information about user action DOM events stored in configurable elements in the DOM.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the browser extension utilizes a list of one or more user action DOM events to listen for, the list corresponding to a security group in which the user is a member.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user action DOM event causes a modification to the DOM prior to the information about the user action DOM event being stored in the configurable element of the DOM.

8. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory including instructions executable by the one or more processor to configure a web browser to:

access a web page from a web server;

parse the web page into a document object model (DOM);

cause rendering of the DOM on a display as a rendered web page;

use a browser extension to listen for one or more user action DOM events derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server;

in response to the browser extension detecting a user action DOM event derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server, add information about the user action DOM event to a configurable element within the DOM;

receive a request for an audit trail from a server; and

return the information about the user action DOM event in the configurable element within the DOM to the server in response to the receiving of the request for an audit trail.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the user action DOM event is a user selecting an on-screen button in the rendered web page.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the user action DOM event is a mouse click by the user in the rendered web page.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the user action DOM event is keyboard input by the user in the rendered web page.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the returning includes serializing a plurality of pieces of information about user action DOM events stored in configurable elements in the DOM.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the browser extension utilizes a list of one or more user action DOM events to listen for, the list corresponding to a security group in which the user is a member.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the user action DOM event causes a modification to the DOM prior to the information about the user action DOM event being stored in the configurable element of the DOM.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

access a web page from a web server;

parsing the web page into a document object model (DOM);

case rendering of the DOM on a display as a rendered web page;

using a browser extension to listen for one or more user action DOM events derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server;

in response to the browser extension detecting a user action DOM event derived from interaction between the user and the rendered web page without causing a corresponding call made to the web server, adding information about the user action DOM event to a configurable element within the DOM;

receiving a request for an audit trail from a server; and

returning the information about the user action DOM event in the configurable element within the DOM to the server in response to the receiving of the request for an audit trail.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the user action DOM event is a user selecting an on-screen button in the rendered web page.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the user action DOM event is a mouse click by the user in the rendered web page.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the user action DOM event is keyboard input by the user in the rendered web page.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the returning includes serializing a plurality of pieces of information about user action DOM events stored in configurable elements in the DOM.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the browser extension utilizes a list of one or more user action DOM events to listen for, the list corresponding to a security group in which the user is a member.
