Abstract

The invention relates to a fluid pump or rotary cutter having at least one first element ( 9′″, 10′″ ) which can be brought from a transport state into an operating state by changing at least one mechanical property. Such a pump can, for example, be a blood pump for the medical, microinvasive area. The object of achieving a transition between the transport state and the operating state which is as comfortable as possible and in so doing leaving a freedom in the design of corresponding apparatus, in particular of a pump, which is as large as possible, is achieved using the means of the invention in that the first element at least partly comprises a material ( 24, 25, 26, 27 ) or can be filled with a material or material mixture which passes through a chemical reaction, in particular cross-linking, or a crystallization for transition into the operating state.

Claims (24)

1. A pump for operation in a fluid, the pump comprising:

at least one first element, the first element having a first transport state and a second operating state, wherein in the first transport state the first element is compressed to a first size, and wherein in the second operating state the first element is expanded to a second size, the second size being larger than the first size; and

a material or material mixture, wherein the material is configured to pass through a transition from a first rheological state to a second rheological state, and wherein the at least one first element at least partly comprises the material or material mixture;

wherein when the first element is in the first transport state, the material is in the first rheological state, and when the first element is in the second operating state, the material is in the second rheological state.

2. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the first element is a part of a rotor of a conveying element.

3. The pump of claim 2 , wherein the first element is a conveying blade of a pump.

4. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the first element is a pump housing.

5. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the changeable mechanical property is the stiffness and/or the geometrical form.

6. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the material or material mixture of the first element comprises a hardenable material or material mixture.

7. The pump of claim 6 , wherein the hardenable material or material mixture can be hardened by temperature effect, electric and/or magnetic fields, radiation, mechanical effect or by initializing a crystallization.

8. The pump of claim 7 , wherein the material can be hardened by the addition of a further material that is included in the medium on which the apparatus has an effect, or by contact with a further material.

9. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the first element can be changed by a continued or further reaction, reversibly or irreversibly, into a state in which the apparatus can be transported or in which it can be brought into a transport state by mechanical destruction.

10. The pump in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the first element at least partly comprises the material or can be filled with the material or material mixture which, as long as it is exposed to a radiation, an electric field and/or a magnetic field, has mechanical properties changed with respect to the state without such effect, in particular changed stiffness/viscosity or shape.

11. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the material or material mixture has a lower viscosity in a transport state of the first element.

12. The pump of claim 11 , wherein the viscosity of the material or material mixture allows the first element to be compressed.

13. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the material or material mixture passes through a transition from a first rheological state to a second rheological state due to cross-linking.

14. A method for operating a pump; the method comprising:

inserting a percutaneous blood pump into patient's body, the blood pump including a first element configured to be filled with a material or material mixture which passes through a transition from a first rheological state into a second rheological state;

transitioning the first element from a first transport state to a second operational state;

providing power to rotate a rotor of the pump;

wherein the material/material mixture of the first element undergoes a reaction, in particular crosslinking, or a crystallization after introduction into the patient's body before operation or directly on being provided power, wherein when the first element is in the first transport state, the material is in the first rheological state, and when the first element is in the second operating state, the material is in the second rheological state.

15. The method of claim 14 , the method further comprising introducing the material into at least one hollow space of the first element before the reaction or crystallization.

16. The method of claim 15 , the method further comprising applying a stimuli to the pump to initiate, assist or carry out the reaction or crystallization, wherein the stimuli is one of radiation, temperature change or mechanical effect, or electric or magnetic fields.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the pump is exposed to the stimuli after its introduction into the patient's body and power is provided to the pump during the application of the stimuli; or in that the pump is exposed to stimuli during transport.
