Claims (55)

1 . A method for operating a mobile computing device including a display, a power button, a radio, and one or more processors, the method performed by the one or more processors of the mobile computing device and comprising:

when a telephone call is being received by the mobile computing device, silencing an indication of the telephone call, without turning off the mobile computing device, based on a user pressing the power button; and

when the telephone call is not being received by the mobile computing device, turning on a backlight of the display based on the user pressing a selected button of the mobile computing device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication comprises an audible ring.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication comprises a vibration of the mobile computing device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected button comprises the power button.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting, on the display, a notification indicating the telephone call.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device, the first face different than the second face.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating an audible ring indicative of the telephone call based on a ringer switch of the mobile computing device being in a first state; and

generating a vibration indicative of the telephone call based on the ringer switch being in a second state.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

toggling the mobile computing device on and off based on the user actuating the power button.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the actuating comprises the user pressing and releasing the power button.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile computing device comprises a cellular phone.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio is configured to operate according to a Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) wireless standard or a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard.

12 . A mobile computing device, comprising:

a display;

a power button;

a processor, and

a memory configured to store instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile computing device to:

when a telephone call is being received by the mobile computing device, silence an indication of the telephone call, without turning off the mobile computing device, based on a user pressing the power button; and

when the telephone call is not being received by the mobile computing device, turn on a backlight of the display based on the user pressing a selected button of the mobile computing device.

13 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the indication comprises an audible ring.

14 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the indication comprises a vibration of the mobile computing device.

15 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the selected button comprises the power button.

16 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to further:

present, on the display, a notification indicating the telephone call.

17 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device, the first face different than the second face.

18 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to further:

generate an audible ring indicative of the telephone call based on a ringer switch of the mobile computing device being in a first state; and

generate a vibration indicative of the telephone call based on the ringer switch being in a second state.

19 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to further:

toggle the mobile computing device on and off based on the user actuating the power button.

20 . The mobile computing device of claim 19 , wherein the actuating comprises the user pressing and releasing the power button.

21 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the mobile computing device comprises a cellular phone.

22 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , further comprising a radio configured to operate according to a Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) wireless standard or a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard.

23 . A mobile computing device including a display, a power button, and one or more processors, the mobile computing device comprising:

means for silencing an indication of a telephone call based on a user pressing the power button when the telephone call is being received, without turning off the mobile computing device; and

means for turning on a backlight of the display based on the user pressing a selected button of the mobile computing device when the telephone call is not being received by the mobile computing device.

24 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , wherein the indication comprises an audible ring.

25 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , wherein the indication comprises a vibration of the mobile computing device.

26 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , wherein the selected button comprises the power button.

27 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , further comprising:

means for presenting, on the display, a notification indicating the telephone call.

28 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device, the first face different than the second face.

29 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , further comprising:

means for generating an audible ring indicative of the telephone call based on a ringer switch of the mobile computing device being in a first state; and

means for generating a vibration indicative of the telephone call based on the ringer switch being in a second state.
