2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected button comprises a power button of the mobile computing device.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the power button is separate from the display.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device.

5 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

turning the mobile computing device off based on the user pressing the power button.

6 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

toggling the backlight of the display on and off based on the user actuating the power button.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the actuating comprises the user double-tapping the power button.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile computing device comprises a cellular phone.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio is configured to operate according to a Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) wireless standard or a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

silencing a ring of an incoming call, without powering off the mobile computing device, based on the user pressing the selected button.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the selected button comprises a power button of the mobile computing device.

12 . A mobile computing device, comprising:

a display; and

a memory configured to store instructions that, when executed by a processor of the mobile computing device, cause the mobile computing device to:

turn on a backlight of the display based on a user pressing a selected button at a first time; and

turn off the backlight of the display based on the user pressing the selected button at a second time.

13 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein the selected button comprises a power button of the mobile computing device.

14 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , wherein the power button is separate from the display.

15 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device.

16 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to further:

turn off the mobile computing device based on the user pressing the power button.

17 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to:

toggle the backlight of the display on and off based on the user actuating the power button.

18 . The mobile computing device of claim 17 , wherein the actuating comprises the user double-tapping the power button.

19 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , wherein the mobile computing device comprises a cellular phone.

20 . The mobile computing device of claim 13 , further comprising a radio configured to operate according to a Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) wireless standard or a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard.

21 . The mobile computing device of claim 12 , wherein execution of the instructions causes the mobile computing device to further:

silence a ring of an incoming call, without powering off the mobile computing device, based on the user pressing the selected button.

22 . The mobile computing device of claim 21 , wherein the selected button comprises a power button of the mobile computing device.

23 . A mobile computing device including at least a display, the mobile computing device comprising:

means for turning on a backlight of the display based on a user pressing a selected button at a first time; and

means for turning off the backlight of the display based on the user pressing the selected button at a second time.

24 . The mobile computing device of claim 23 , wherein the selected button comprises a power button of the mobile computing device.

25 . The mobile computing device of claim 24 , wherein the power button is separate from the display.

26 . The mobile computing device of claim 24 , wherein the display is located on a first face of the mobile computing device, and the power button is located on a second face of the mobile computing device.

27 . The mobile computing device of claim 24 , further comprising:
