Abstract

A media access device such as, for example, a cable or satellite set top box (STB), a digital video recorder (DVR), a personal computer, and/or a digital media receivers automatically optimizes an order of content choices presented in a content listing, such as a program guide display, favorite channel display, and/or a recording listing display based on the past viewing and/or recording history of a current user.

Claims (12)

1. A non-transitory, computer readable media having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by a processing device of a digital video recording device, perform steps comprising:

receiving from a first user a first recording request to record a first program via use of the digital video recording device;

storing information indicative of the first user that provided the first recording request;

receiving from a second user, different than the first user, a second recording request to record a second program via use of the digital video recording device;

storing information indicative of the second user that provided the second recording request;

receiving from one of the first user and the second user a display request to display a listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device; and

using the information indicative of the one of the first user and the second user providing the display request to display a listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device, the stored information indicative of the first user providing the first recording request to record a first program via use of the digital video recording device, and the stored information indicative of the second user providing the second recording request to record a second program via use of the digital video recording device to make the first program more visually prominent within the listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device relative to the second program when the listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device is caused to be displayed in response to the display request being received from the first user and makes the second program more visually prominent within the listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device relative to the first program when the listing of all programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device is caused to be displayed in response to the display request being received from the second user.

The non-transitory, computer readable media as recited in claim 1 , wherein the instructions further use information stored in a user program viewing history file for a one of the first user and the second user that provided the display request to provide an order to the listing of programs that have been recorded via use of the digital video recording device when displayed to a display requesting user.

3. The non-transitory, computer readable media as recited in claim 1 , wherein the information indicative of the first user providing the first recording request and the one of the first user and the second user providing the display request is captured via use of a camera.

The non-transitory, computer readable media as recited in claim 1 , wherein the information indicative of the first user providing the first recording request and the one of the first user and the second user providing the display request is captured via use of a signal received from a controlling device.

5. The non-transitory, computer readable media as recited in claim 1 , wherein the information indicative of the first user providing the recording request and the one of the first user and the second user providing the display request is captured via use of user provided log-in information.

6. The non-transitory, computer readable media as recited in claim 1 , wherein the digital video recording device comprises a personal computer.
