Mechanical locking system for floor panels
Floor panels ( 1, 1′ ) are shown, which are provided with a mechanical locking system including a flexible tongue ( 10 ) in a displacement groove ( 11 ). The flexible tongue ( 10 ) may be formed from the core material ( 5 ) of the floor panels and inserted during production into the displacement groove ( 11 ). The locking system may be locked with vertical folding.
1. A set of essentially identical floor panels provided with a mechanical locking system comprising a flexible tongue, which is arranged in a displacement groove at a first edge of a first panel, and a tongue groove at a second edge of an adjacent second panel, the flexible tongue is configured to cooperate with the tongue groove for locking of the first and the second edge in a vertical direction,
wherein:
the flexible tongue comprises a sliding surface and a locking surface,
the displacement groove comprises at least two cavities, each comprising upper, inner and lower cavity walls and a horizontal opening, wherein a portion of the displacement groove provided between said at least two cavities is configured to cooperate with a portion of the flexible tongue during locking,
the second floor panel comprises at least two protrusions, each comprising a sliding edge which is configured to cooperate with the sliding surface during locking and to press and bend a flexible tongue section into the at least two cavities, and
the flexible tongue section is configured to move back outwardly in a final stage of the locking such that the locking surface is inserted into the tongue groove.

The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the mechanical locking system further comprises a locking strip, at the first or the second edge, provided with a locking element configured to cooperate with a locking groove at the other of the first or second edge for locking in a horizontal direction.
3. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the displacement groove comprises a horizontal opening that is distinct from the horizontal opening of each of the at least two cavities.
4. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said portion of the displacement groove is an inner wall of the displacement groove.
5. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said portion of the flexible tongue is an inner portion of the flexible tongue.
6. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the flexible tongue springs back fully to an original configuration of the flexible tongue after locking.
7. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the flexible tongue springs back only partly to an original configuration of the flexible tongue after locking.
8. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the inner cavity walls is a curved surface.
9. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the inner cavity walls is a planar surface.
10. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the upper, inner and lower cavity walls starts and ends in the displacement groove along a length direction thereof.
11. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the flexible tongue has a constant cross-section along a length direction of the flexible tongue.
12. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the at least two cavities has a same vertical extension as the displacement groove.
13. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the at least two cavities has a larger vertical extension than the displacement groove.
14. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the flexible tongue is straight-rod shaped.

A set of essentially identical floor panels provided with a mechanical locking system comprising a flexible tongue, which is arranged in a displacement groove at a first edge of a first panel, and a tongue groove at a second edge of an adjacent second panel, the flexible tongue is configured to cooperate with the tongue groove for locking of the first and the second edge in a vertical direction,
wherein:
an outer part of the flexible tongue comprises a protrusion comprising a sliding surface and a locking surface,
the displacement groove comprises at least two cavities, each comprising upper, inner and lower cavity walls and a horizontal opening, wherein a portion of the displacement groove provided between said at least two cavities is configured to cooperate with a portion of the flexible tongue during locking,
the second floor panel comprises a sliding edge which is configured to cooperate with the sliding surface during locking and to press and bend a flexible tongue section into the at least two cavities, and
the flexible tongue section is configured to move back outwardly such that the locking surface is inserted into the tongue groove.

The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the mechanical locking system further comprises a locking strip, at the first or the second edge, provided with a locking element configured to cooperate with a locking groove at the other of the first or second edge for locking in a horizontal direction.
17. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the displacement groove comprises a horizontal opening that is distinct from the horizontal opening of each of the at least two cavities.
18. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the flexible tongue springs back to an original configuration of the flexible tongue after locking.
19. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 15 , wherein each of the upper, inner and lower cavity walls is a continuous cavity wall.
20. The set of floor panels as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the flexible tongue is insertable into the at least two cavities of the displacement groove with the protrusion facing away from the at least two cavities.
