Abstract

Various methods for wireless communication in a device with co-existed/co-located radios are provided. Multiple communication radio transceivers are co-existed/co-located in a user equipment (UE) having in-device coexistence (IDC) capability, which may result in IDC interference. For example, the UE is equipped with both LTE radio and some ISM band applications such as WiFi and Bluetooth modules. In a first method, the network identifies IDC capability by UE identification (e.g., UE ID). In a second method, the UE intentionally performs cell selection or reselection to cells in non-ISM frequency bands. In a third method, the UE signals the existence of ISM band applications via capability negotiation. In a fourth method, the UE signals the activation of ISM band applications by signaling messages (e.g., RRC message or MAC CE). Under the various methods, the UE and its serving eNB can apply FDM or TDM solutions to mitigate the IDC interference.

Claims (24)

1. A method comprising:

serving a user equipment (UE) over a serving cell by a serving base station in a wireless communication system;

obtaining UE capability information that indicates in-device coexistence (IDC) capability of the UE, wherein the existence of a coexisting radio device is indicated by the UE capability information;

forwarding IDC information to a target base station, wherein the IDC information comprises at least the UE capability information; and

handing over the UE to a cell in another frequency that is away from a serving frequency of the serving cell if the serving frequency is near the frequency of the coexisting radio device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the serving base station receives a parameter in the UE capability information indicating the coexisting radio device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the serving base station receives information of supported bands, wherein the frequency bands of the coexisting radio device are excluded.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving tracking area update (TAU) initiated by the UE to indicate the supported bands when the coexisting radio device is activated.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an indication of an activation/deactivation of the coexisting radio device.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the indication is transmitted via a media access control (MAC) control element (CE) or a radio resource control (RRC) message.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein IDC information further comprises UE measurement configuration, UE measurement results, and UE handover history information.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

receiving channel quality measurement results reported by the UE, wherein the measurement report includes signal quality of frequency bands used by the coexisting radio device.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the serving base station configures the measurement of an event, and wherein the measurement results of the frequency bands used by the coexisting radio device are piggybacked onto the measurement report of the configured event.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the serving base station configures the measurement of an IDC event.

11. A method comprising:

receiving handover preparation information by a target base station from a serving base station in a wireless communication system, wherein the handover preparation information comprises in-device coexistence (IDC) information of a user equipment (UE), and wherein the IDC information comprises UE capability information that includes a parameter indicating a coexisting radio device on the UE; and

transmitting a handover command to the serving base station, wherein the UE is handed over to a target cell in another frequency that is away from a current serving frequency if the current serving frequency is near a frequency of the coexisting radio device.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the IDC information further comprises UE measurement configuration, UE measurement results, and UE handover history information.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the UE capability information further comprises an IDC device type and an IDC device traffic pattern.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the UE capability information further comprises supported bands, wherein frequency bands of the coexisting radio device are excluded.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the target base station refrains from handover the UE back to the serving base station if the IDC information indicates coexistence interference.
