Configuration and method for fixation of a filter to a catheter
An attachment configuration for a vascular filter assembly including a self-expanding filter member attached to a catheter body and constrained from expansion in a first configuration by a constraining sheath is presented. The attachment configuration includes an outer tube of material that is overlaid over an end of the filter member and bonded to the catheter body through cutouts disposed through the end of the filter member.
1. A catheter attachment device, comprising:
a. a substantially tubular coupling circumferentially engaged with a catheter, the tubular coupling having a plurality of cutouts positioned along a longitudinal axis of the tubular coupling and about a circumferential axis of the tubular coupling, the plurality of cutouts passing through the tubular coupling and being configured to allow for diametric expansion and diametric compression of the tubular coupling and engagement with the catheter; and
b. a circumferentially compressive member disposed concentrically about the generally tubular coupling and over the plurality of cutouts and engaged with the generally tubular coupling and the catheter, wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter are joined together forming a seamless monolithic structure through the plurality of cutouts in the generally tubular coupling.
2. The catheter attachment device of claim 1 , wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter body are reflow joined.
3. The catheter attachment device of claim 2 , wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter body are made of the same polymeric material.
4. The catheter attachment device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cutouts are selected from the group consisting of: polygonal, circular, elliptical, open-ended circular, semi-circular, zig-zag, sinusoidal, coiled, and spaced line.
5. The catheter attachment device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cutouts are configured with a width W extending generally along the longitudinal axis of the proximal end and a height H extending generally along the axial axis of the proximal end, wherein the width W of the cutouts is greater than the height H of the plurality of cutouts.
6. A catheter attachment device, comprising:
a. a coupling circumferentially engaged with a catheter, the coupling having a plurality of openings positioned along a longitudinal axis of the coupling and about a circumferential axis of the coupling, the plurality of openings passing through wall surfaces of the coupling; and
b. a circumferentially compressive member disposed concentrically about the coupling and over the plurality of openings and engaged with the coupling and the catheter, wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter are joined together through the plurality of openings to form a seamless monolithic structure between the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter.
7. The catheter attachment device of claim 6 , wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter body are made of polymer and reflow joined.
8. The catheter attachment device of claim 7 , wherein the circumferentially compressive member and the catheter body are made of the same polymeric material.
9. The catheter attachment device of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of openings are selected from the group consisting of: polygonal, circular, elliptical, open-ended circular, semi-circular, zig-zag, sinusoidal, coiled, and spaced line.
10. The catheter attachment device of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of openings are configured with a width W extending generally along the longitudinal axis of the proximal end and a height H extending generally along the axial axis of the proximal end, wherein the width W of the cutouts is greater than the height H of the plurality of cutouts.
