Abstract

A method of wireless communication including a base station transmitting a preamble including information indicating a sector identifier and an antenna port value. The base station further transmits a pilot sequence, wherein the pilot sequence and the location of the pilot sequence are based on the sector identifier and on the antenna port value. A base station configured to perform the method is also disclosed. A corresponding subscriber station configured to receive the preamble and pilot sequence is also disclosed, as well as a subscriber station method.

Claims (13)

1. A subscriber station configured for use in a wireless communication system, the subscriber station comprising:

a receiver; and

a signal processor operably coupled to the receiver; and

the receiver is configured to:

receive an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal transmitted by a first antenna port and a second antenna port of a base station, wherein the OFDM signal corresponds to a least one slot, wherein a slot of the OFDM signal includes a plurality of subcarriers and a plurality of symbols, wherein the slot includes a first antenna port pilot on at least a first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and a second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, and a second antenna port pilot on at least the first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and the second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are received in adjacent symbols in time, respectively, wherein the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are separated by a plurality of adjacent subcarriers and the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are not received via any of the plurality of adjacent subcarriers in the slot, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are not received in all of the plurality of symbols of the slot; and

receive a primary signal and a secondary signal for cell search, wherein the primary signal and the secondary signal are derived from Zadoff-Chu sequences, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot do not overlap with the primary signal and the secondary signal; and

the signal processor is configured to utilize the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot to recover data from the OFDM signal.

2. The subscriber station of claim 1 , wherein the first antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot and the second antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot.

3. A method performed by a subscriber station of a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal transmitted by a first antenna port and a second antenna port of a base station, wherein the OFDM signal corresponds to a least one slot, wherein a slot of the OFDM signal includes a plurality of subcarriers and a plurality of symbols, wherein the slot includes a first antenna port pilot on at least a first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and a second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, and a second antenna port pilot on at least the first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and the second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are received in adjacent symbols in time, respectively, wherein the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are separated by a plurality of adjacent subcarriers and the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are not received via any of the plurality of adjacent subcarriers in the slot, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are not received in all of the plurality of symbols of the slot;

receiving a primary signal and a secondary signal for cell search, wherein the primary signal and the secondary signal are derived from Zadoff-Chu sequences, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot do not overlap with the primary signal and the secondary signal; and

utilizing the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot to recover data from the OFDM signal.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot and the second antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot.
