Abstract

A content management system for collecting photos from one or more submitters in a collection folder. A collector, who generates the collection folder, can invite one or more submitters to submit one or more photos to the collection folder. The one or more submitters have limited rights to the collection folder. The limited rights can include uploading rights and prohibiting a submitter from viewing photos that other submitters associated with the collection folder submitted. Thus, the collection folder is able to store photos from the one or more submitters, but prevent them from viewing other's submissions.

Claims (51)

1. A computer implemented method comprising:

receiving, from a client device associated with a collector and by a content management system, a request to collect files from a submitter;

based on receiving the request to collect files from the submitter, generating, by the content management system, a link to a collection folder;

receiving, from the client device associated with the collector, a tag identifying one or more file characteristics, wherein the tag is executable on a client device associated with the submitter to identify files having the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter;

associating the tag with the link to the collection folder within a file request message;

distributing, to the client device associated with the submitter, the file request message comprising the link to the collection folder and the associated tag identifying the one or more file characteristics; and

based on the submitter accessing the link to the collection folder and the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter, receiving a file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the tag comprises metadata.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on receiving the file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter, providing a notification to the client device associated with the collector comprising information corresponding to the file.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein distributing the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics to the client device associated with the submitter causes the client device associated with the submitter to:

provide, for display on the client device associated with the submitter, a folder selection user interface comprising a plurality of files stored on the client device associated with the submitter;

analyze the plurality of files based on the one or more file characteristics; and

identify the file comprising the one or more file characteristics based on analyzing the plurality of files.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

storing, by the content management system, the file comprising the one or more file characteristics in the collection folder in an account associated with the collector.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more file characteristics indicated by the tag comprise at least one of a time period, a geographic location, or an event.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the submitter has limited rights to the collection folder which comprises uploading rights for uploading one or more files to the collection folder and further comprise viewing rights allowing the submitter to view files the submitter uploaded and one or more files designated by the collector.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising deactivating the collection folder, by the content management system, at least partially in response to receiving a deactivating command from the client device associated with the collector, wherein the submitter is prohibited from accessing the deactivated collection folder.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the submitter does not have an account with the content management system.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more file characteristics indicated by the tag comprise a recognition feature to recognize a face or an object in a digital photo.

11. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

receive, from a client device associated with a collector, a request to collect files from a submitter;

based on receiving the request to collect files from the submitter, generate a link to a collection folder in a content management system;

receive, from the client device associated with the collector, a tag identifying one or more file characteristics, wherein the tag is executable on a client device associated with the submitter to identify files having the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter;

associate the tag with the link to the collection folder within a file request message;

distribute, to the client device associated with the submitter, the file request message comprising the link to the collection folder and the associated tag identifying the one or more file characteristics; and

based on the submitter accessing the link to the collection folder and the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter, receive a file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the tag comprises metadata.

13. The system of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to, based on receiving the file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter, provide a notification to the client device associated with the collector comprising information corresponding to the file.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein distributing the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics to the client device associated with the submitter causes the client device associated with the submitter to:

provide for display on the client device associated with the submitter, a folder selection user interface comprising a plurality of files stored on the client device associated with the submitter;

analyze the plurality of files based on the one or more file characteristics; and

identify the file comprising the one or more file characteristics based on analyzing the plurality of files.

15. The system of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

store the file comprising the one or more file characteristics in the collection folder in an account associated with the collector.

16. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computer device to:

receive, from a client device associated with a collector, a request to collect files from a submitter;

based on receiving the request to collect files from the submitter, generate a link to a collection folder in a content management system;

receive, from the client device associated with the collector, a tag identifying one or more file characteristics, wherein the tag is executable on a client device associated with the submitter to identify files having the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter;

associate the tag with the link to the collection folder within a file request message;

distribute, to the client device associated with the submitter, the file request message comprising the link to the collection folder and the associated tag identifying the one or more file characteristics; and

based on the submitter accessing the link to the collection folder and the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics on the client device associated with the submitter, receive a file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium as recited in claim 16 , wherein the tag comprises metadata.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium as recited in claim 16 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computer device to, based on receiving the file comprising the one or more file characteristics from the client device associated with the submitter, provide a notification to the client device associated with the collector comprising information corresponding to the file.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium as recited in claim 16 , wherein distributing the tag identifying the one or more file characteristics to the client device associated with the submitter causes the client device associated with the submitter to:

provide for display on the client device associated with the submitter, a folder selection user interface comprising a plurality of files stored on the client device associated with the submitter;

analyze the plurality of files based on the one or more file characteristics; and

identify the file comprising the one or more file characteristics based on analyzing the plurality of files.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium as recited in claim 16 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computer device to store the file comprising the one or more file characteristics in the collection folder in an account associated with the collector.
