Abstract

A transmission apparatus includes a plurality of antennas and a transmission scheme determination processor that selects one of either a first transmission scheme of transmitting a plurality of signals including a first amount of data in a frame, respectively, from the plurality of antennas, and a second transmission scheme of transmitting a plurality of signals including a second greater amount of data in a frame, respectively, from the plurality of antennas. The apparatus includes a modulation scheme selection processor that selects a modulation scheme among a plurality of modulation schemes and a control processor that controls the transmission scheme determination processor and the modulation scheme selection processor to change the transmission scheme less frequently than the modulation scheme. A transmitter transmits from the plurality of antennas a signal generated based on the selected transmission scheme and the selected modulation scheme.

Claims (22)

1. A transmission apparatus comprising:

a plurality of antennas;

a transmission scheme determination processor configured to select one of either a first transmission scheme of transmitting a plurality of signals including a first amount of data in a frame, respectively, from the plurality of antennas, and a second transmission scheme of transmitting a plurality of signals including a second greater amount of data in a frame, respectively, from the plurality of antennas;

a modulation scheme selection processor configured to select a modulation scheme among a plurality of modulation schemes;

a control processor configured to control the transmission scheme determination processor and the modulation scheme selection processor to change the transmission scheme less frequently than the modulation scheme; and

a transmitter configured to transmit from the plurality of antennas a signal generated based on the selected transmission scheme and the selected modulation scheme.

2. The transmission apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the first transmission scheme uses space-time block coding.

3. The transmission apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the first transmission scheme uses Cyclic Delay Diversity (CDD).

4. The transmission apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit a plurality of signals by the second transmission scheme after transmitting a plurality of signals by the first transmission scheme.

5. A transmission apparatus having multiple antennas comprising:

a transmission and modulation scheme selection processor configured to select (i) a transmission scheme for transmitting a plurality of transmission signals from among a plurality of transmission schemes according to a number of different data streams used for a transmission, and (ii) a modulation scheme from among a plurality of modulation schemes according to the number of different data streams used for a transmission, where different data streams contain different data symbols;

a modulator configured to modulate the plurality of transmission signals using the selected modulation scheme and to output a plurality of modulated transmission signals; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the plurality of modulated transmission signals using the number of different data streams used for the transmission among the multiple antennas,

wherein the transmission and modulation scheme selector processor is configured to:

select, when a first number of different data streams is used for the transmission, a modulating scheme in which a maximum value of a number of modulated M-ary index of the selected modulation scheme is smaller than a maximum value of a number of modulated M-ary index of the modulation scheme selected when a second number of multiple different data streams less than the first number of multiple different data streams is used for the transmission, and

select, when the second number of multiple different data streams is used for the transmission, a modulating scheme having a same maximum value of a number of modulated M-ary index for every selected transmission scheme.

6. The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the first number of multiple different data streams using all of the multiple antennas.

7. The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the first number of multiple different data streams is less than or equal to all of the multiple antennas but greater than the second number of multiple different data streams.

8. The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the first number of multiple different data streams is two and the second number of multiple different data streams is one.

The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein, when the first number of multiple different data streams is used for transmission, the transmission and modulation scheme selector processor is configured to select a transmission scheme using space-time block coding, a transmission scheme in which the plurality of transmission signals are multiplied and combined based on known information between the transmission apparatus and a reception apparatus, or a transmission scheme in which the first number of multiple different data streams transmits different transmission signals.

The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein, when the second number of multiple different data streams is used for the transmission, the transmission and modulation scheme selector processor is configured to select a transmission scheme using space-time block coding in which the multiple antennas transmit using diversity transmission.

11. The transmission apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the transmitter includes multiple amplifiers having a same output characteristic and configured to amplify the plurality of modulated transmission signals.
