Abstract

A fracturing pump transport comprising a first pump configured to pressurize and pump fracturing fluid, a second pump configured to pressurize and pump the fracturing fluid, and a dual shaft electric motor comprising a shaft and configured to receive electric power from a power source and drive in parallel, both the first pump and the second pump with the shaft.

Claims (42)

1. A system for pumping and pressurizing fracturing fluid, the system comprising:

a source of electric power; and

a fracturing pump transport coupled to the source of electric power, wherein the fracturing pump transport comprises:

a dual shaft electric prime mover that comprises a shaft that protrudes at opposite sides of the dual shaft electric prime mover;

a first pump coupled to a first end of the shaft via a first coupling connection that allows for selective engagement between the first pump and the dual shaft electric prime mover; and

a second pump coupled to a second end of the shaft via a second coupling connection that allows for selective engagement between the second pump and the dual shaft electric prime, and

wherein the dual shaft electric prime mover is operable to drive the first pump after the second coupling connection disengages the dual shaft electric prime mover from driving the second pump.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dual shaft electric prime mover is mounted on a sub-assembly of the fracturing pump transport, and wherein the sub-assembly, the first coupling connection, and the second coupling connection allow the dual shaft electric prime mover to disconnect from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the second pump are attached to the fracturing pump transport.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fracturing pump transport further comprises a lay-down trailer for mounting the dual shaft electric prime mover, the first pump, and the second pump, and wherein the lay-down trailer includes a lower frame section configured to rest on a ground surface during operation.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the dual shaft electric prime mover, the first pump, and the second pump are mounted on the lower frame section of the lay-down trailer.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fracturing pump transport further comprises a lay-down trailer that includes a lower frame section, positioned below the trailer axles of the lay-down trailer, and an upper frame section positioned at or above the trailer axles of the lay-down trailer.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first coupling connection comprises a fixed coupling and a keyed shaft that couples to a splined toothed coupling that is attached to the dual shaft electric prime mover.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a drive power transport that comprises a variable frequency drive configured to control and monitor the dual shaft electric prime mover, wherein the variable frequency drive is not located on the fracturing pump transport.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dual shaft electric prime mover is mechanically isolated from the second pump after the second coupling connection disengages the second pump with the dual shaft electric prime mover.

9. The system of claim 1 ,

wherein the second pump is mounted on a sub-assembly, and

wherein the sub-assembly and the second coupling connection allow the second pump to disconnect from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the dual shaft electric prime mover are attached to the fracturing pump transport.

10. A fracturing pump transport comprising:

a first pump configured to pressurize and pump fracturing fluid;

a second pump configured to pressurize and pump the fracturing fluid;

a dual shaft electric motor that comprises a shaft having a first end and a second end;

a first coupling connection configured to selectively engage the first pump with the first end of the shaft; and

a second coupling connection configured to selectively engage the second pump with the second end of the shaft,

wherein the dual shaft electric motor is configured to drive the first pump with the shaft without driving the second pump after the second coupling connection disengages the second pump and the dual shaft electric motor.

11. The fracturing pump transport of claim 10 , further comprising a lay-down trailer configured to mount the dual shaft electric motor, the first pump, and the second pump, wherein the lay-down trailer includes a lower frame section configured to rest on a ground surface during operation.

12. The fracturing pump transport of claim 10 , further comprising a lay-down trailer that includes a lower frame section, positioned below the trailer axles of the lay-down trailer, and a upper frame section positioned at or above the trailer axles of the lay-down trailer.

13. The fracturing pump transport of claim 10 , wherein the dual shaft electric motor is mounted on a sub-assembly of the fracturing pump transport, and wherein the sub-assembly, the first coupling connection, and the second coupling connection configure the dual shaft electric motor to disconnect from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the second pump are attached to the fracturing pump transport.

14. The fracturing pump transport of claim 10 , wherein the dual shaft electric motor is mechanically isolated from the second pump after the second coupling connection disengages the second pump with the dual shaft electric motor.

15. The fracturing pump transport of claim 10 , wherein the second pump is mounted on a sub-assembly, and wherein the sub-assembly and the second coupling connection configure the second pump to disconnect from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the dual shaft electric motor are attached to the fracturing pump transport.

16. A method for pumping and pressurizing fracturing fluid, the method comprising:

engaging a first pump mounted on a fracturing pump transport with a dual shaft electric prime mover mounted on the fracturing pump transport using a first coupling connection, wherein the first coupling connection allows for selective engagement between the first pump and the dual shaft electric prime mover;

disengaging a second pump mounted on the fracturing pump transport with the dual shaft electric prime mover using a second coupling connection, wherein the second coupling connection allows for selective engagement between the second pump and the dual shaft electric prime mover;

receiving electric power to power the dual shaft electric prime mover; and

driving the first pump with the powered dual shaft electric prime mover without driving the second pump after disengaging the second pump from the dual shaft electric prime mover using the second coupling connection.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising mounting the first pump, the second pump, and the dual shaft electric prime mover on a lay-down trailer, wherein the lay-down trailer includes a lower frame section configured to rest on a ground surface during operation.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the dual shaft electric prime mover, the first pump, and the second pump are mounted on a lower frame section of the lay-down trailer.

19. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

mounting the dual shaft electric prime mover on a sub-assembly of the fracturing pump transport; and

disconnecting, using the sub-assembly, the first coupling connection, and the second coupling connection, the dual shaft electric prime mover from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the second pump are attached to the fracturing pump transport.

20. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

mounting the second pump on a sub-assembly of the fracturing pump transport; and

disconnecting, using the sub-assembly and the second coupling connection, the second pump from the fracturing pump transport while both the first pump and the dual shaft electric prime mover are attached to the fracturing pump transport.
