Abstract

A method and a hand-held device for dermnaplaning is disclosed that includes a blade assembly which includes a blade, a blade holder and a safety cage. In accordance with an important aspect of the invention, the safety cage limits the amount of penetration of the blade into the facial skin to enable the device to be safely used by non-professionals. The dermaplaning device includes a vibration generator that causes the blade to vibrate at a predetermined frequency. Various embodiments of the hand-held dermaplaning device are disclosed for vibrating the blade.

Claims (15)

1. A blade assembly comprising:

a blade holder having an enlarged nose portion only at one end thereof and an upper shelf surface extending rearward of the nose portion, the blade holder having a first blade holder side and a second blade holder side;

a single blade carried by said blade holder and disposed at a lower portion of the blade holder, the blade extending along a centerline of said blade holder and rearward of the nose portion, the blade located between the first blade holder side and the second blade holder side, the blade having a cutting edge, a first blade side and a second blade side, the first and second blade sides being disposed adjacent the cutting edge;

a first safety cage fixed over the first blade side and a second safety cage fixed over the second blade side, the first and second safety cages constructed and arranged to limit the amount of penetration of the blade into facial skin; and

a pair of parallel aligned slots including a first slot and a second slot, the first slot disposed along a length of the first blade holder side and below the upper shelf surface, the second slot disposed along a length of the second blade holder side, each slot constructed and arranged to slidingly receive a complementary rail of a hand-held dermaplaning device for mounting the blade assembly thereto.

2. The blade assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein said blade holder is formed with a lower shelf surface.

3. The blade assembly as recited in claim 2 , further including an upwardly extending tab formed on said lower shelf surface.

4. The blade assembly as recited in claim 3 , wherein said tab is an L-shaped tab.

5. The blade assembly as recited in claim 2 , further including an upwardly extending ramp formed on said lower shelf portion.

6. The blade assembly as recited in claim 2 , wherein the upper shelf surface and the lower shelf surface are constructed and arranged to cooperate with a blade assembly control mechanism of the hand-held dermaplaning device.

7. The blade assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second safety cages is configured with teeth.

8. The blade assembly as recited in claim 1 , in combination with the hand-held dermaplaning device.

9. The combination as recited in claim 8 , wherein the hand-held dermaplaning device comprises a housing formed with the complementary rails, the rails being spaced apart, wherein the a pair of parallel aligned slots are constructed and arranged to slide onto the complementary rails.

10. The combination as recited in claim 8 , wherein the hand-held dermaplaning device comprises a cut-out at a front region thereof, the cut-out constructed and arranged to receive the nose portion of the blade holder.

11. The blade assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein a pair of parallel aligned slots are disposed above the cutting edge.
