Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing enhanced mobile transactions and payments are disclosed. A computer-implemented method may include receiving configuration information that allows a mobile payment system to request that a computing device use an application for a requested mobile transaction, sending a request to the computing device to use the application for the mobile transaction, receiving a response indicating whether the application is available to the computing device, automatically processing the mobile transaction using the application when the application is available to the computing device, and processing the mobile transaction using standard processing without use of the application when the application is unavailable to the computing device or the user wishes to use standard processing.

Claims (47)

1. A system, comprising:

a non-transitory memory storing instructions; and

one or more hardware processors coupled to the non-transitory memory and configured to read the instructions from the non-transitory memory to cause the system to perform operations comprising:

in response to detecting, based on a communication via a first short range wireless communication session over a peer-to-peer connection between a payment terminal associated with a merchant and a computing device, that a mobile transaction between the merchant and a user of the computing device is initiated, sending a first request to the computing device to use a first application for the mobile transaction;

receiving a response indicating that the first application is available to the computing device;

causing the payment terminal to transmit, via the first short range wireless communication session a second request to the first application of the computing device, wherein the second request comprises a link that prompts the user to provide additional information via a second application;

causing the first short range wireless communication session to terminate after and the second request is sent to the computing device;

receiving an indication that the additional information is provided from the second application running on the computing device over a network external to the peer-to-peer connection;

determining, from among a plurality of mobile transactions, that the additional information corresponds to the mobile transaction based at least in part on the indication;

in response to determining the additional information corresponds to the mobile transaction, transmitting the additional information to a merchant server of the merchant over the network and causing the payment terminal to establish a second short range wireless communication session with the computing device over the peer-to-peer connection to complete the mobile transaction based on the additional information; and

processing the mobile transaction based on the additional information.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

transmitting, to the payment terminal, configuration information that causes the payment terminal to send the first request to the computing device.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile transaction is processed using the first application.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting the additional information to the payment terminal.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second application comprises a web browser, and wherein the additional information is received via a web form in the web browser.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the link is associated with the web form.

7. A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon machine-readable instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:

detecting, based on data transmitted via a first wireless communication session over a peer-to-peer connection between a payment terminal associated with a merchant and a computing device, that a mobile transaction between the merchant and a user of the computing device is initiated;

determining that a first application is available to the computing device for processing the mobile transaction;

causing the payment terminal to transmit, via the first wireless communication session, a request to the first application of the computing device, wherein the request comprises a link that prompts the user to provide additional information via a second application;

causing the first wireless communication session to terminate after the request is sent to the computing device;

receiving the additional information from the second application running on the computing device over a network external to the peer-to-peer connection;

in response to determining the additional information corresponds to the mobile transaction, transmitting the additional information to a merchant server associated with the merchant over the network and causing the payment terminal to establish a second wireless communication session over the peer-to-peer connection with the computing device to complete the mobile transaction based on the additional information; and

processing the mobile transaction based on the additional information.

8. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the operations further comprise:

transmitting, to the payment terminal, configuration information that causes the payment terminal to send the request to the computing device.

9. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the mobile transaction is processed using the first application.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the request further comprises an incentive for the user of the computing device to select the first application for use in processing the mobile transaction.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the first application is associated with a merchant-selected mobile payment provider.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the operations further comprise causing the payment terminal to transmit, via the first wireless communication session to the first application of the computing device, instructions for providing the additional information.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the second application comprises a web browser, and wherein the additional information is received via a webpage in the web browser.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the link opens a webpage in the second application.

15. A method, comprising:

detecting, based on a communication via a first short range wireless communication session over a peer-to-peer connection between a payment terminal associated with a merchant and a computing device, that a mobile transaction between the merchant and a user of the computing device is initiated;

in response to the detecting, sending, by one or more hardware processors, a first request to the computing device to use a first application for the mobile transaction;

receiving, by the one or more hardware processors, a response indicating that the first application is available to the computing device;

causing, by the one or more hardware processors, the payment terminal to transmit, via the first short range wireless communication session, a second request to the first application of the computing device, wherein the second request comprises a link that prompts the user to provide additional information via a second application;

causing the first short range wireless communication session to terminate after the second request is sent to the computing device;

receiving the additional information from the second application running on the computing device over a network external to the peer-to-peer connection;

in response to determining the additional information corresponds to the mobile transaction, transmitting, by the one or more hardware processors, the additional information to a merchant server of the merchant over the network and causing, by the one or more hardware processors, the payment terminal to establish a second short range wireless communication session over the peer-to-peer connection with the computing device to complete the mobile transaction based on the additional information; and

processing, by the one or more hardware processors, the mobile transaction based on the additional information.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising transmitting, to the payment terminal, configuration information that causes the payment terminal to send the first request to computing device.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the mobile transaction is processed using the first application.

18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising transmitting the additional information to the payment terminal.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising determining the mobile transaction is associated with a first type of mobile transaction, wherein the first request is sent to the computing device based on the determining the mobile transaction is associated with the first type of mobile transaction.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein the link comprises a webpage link, and wherein the additional information is received from the second application via the webpage.
