Abstract

To form a sufficiently large storage capacitor, a liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal held between the first substrate and the second substrate, the liquid crystal display panel having multiple pixels arranged in matrix. The first substrate has, in a transmissive display area provided in each of the pixels, a laminated structure containing a first transparent electrode, a first insulating film, a second transparent electrode, a second insulating film, and a third transparent electrode which are laminated in this order. The first transparent electrode and the second transparent electrode are electrically insulated from each other and together form a first storage capacitor through the first insulating film, and the second transparent electrode and the third transparent electrode are electrically insulated from each other and together form a second storage capacitor through the second insulating film.

Claims (33)

1. A display device comprising:

a TFT substrate including:

a first insulating substrate;

a first insulating film;

a second insulating film;

a third insulating film;

an alignment film;

a scanning line between the first insulating substrate and the first insulating film;

a semiconductor layer between the first insulating film and the second insulating film;

a signal line between the first insulating film and the second insulating film;

a transparent pixel electrode between the second insulating film and the third insulating film;

a transparent counter electrode between the third insulating film and the alignment film;

a transparent electrode pattern; and

a metal wiring,

a counter substrate including:

a black matrix; and

a color filter, and

a liquid crystal layer between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, wherein

a part of the semiconductor layer overlaps with the metal wiring,

a part of the transparent electrode pattern is between the second insulating film and the third insulating film,

the transparent electrode pattern is separated from the transparent pixel electrode,

the metal wiring has a first surface and a second surface opposed to the first surface, and

the third insulating film has a hole,

the first surface of the metal wiring is in contact with the counter electrode at the hole,

the second surface of the metal wiring is in contact with the transparent electrode pattern at the hole, and

the metal wiring overlaps with the signal line, and is in parallel to the signal line.

2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the alignment film is in contact with the counter electrode at the hole.

3. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent electrode pattern is insular pattern.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the metal wiring formed by Al or Cu.

5. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the metal wiring formed by Al or Cu.

6. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the metal wiring is not overlapped with the transparent pixel electrode.

7. The display device of claim 5 , wherein a pixel of the TFT substrate defined with the scanning line and the signal line, a transmissive display area of the pixel is inside of a region surrounded by the scanning line and the signal line, the counter electrode has silts at the transmissive display area, and the slit is not overlapped with the hole.

8. The display device of claim 7 , wherein the slits of the counter electrode have a first slit and a second slit which is adjacent to the first slit in a transmissive display area, the metal wiring is not formed between the first slit and the second slit.
