Abstract

A method for the real-time metatagging and captioning of an event. The method for the real-time metatagging and captioning of an event may include embedding metatag information in a caption file provided by a captioner. The embedded metatag information may allow a user to access additional information via the text of the captioned event. The metatag information may be embedded using a captioning device that creates both the text code and embeds the metatag code.

Claims (28)

1. A method for metatagging a caption stream, comprising:

generating from an audio stream, using a first computing device, a data file including at least one context sensitive metatag code which relates to a given textual portion of a caption stream and identifies a storage location of context sensitive information relating to the given textual portion of the caption stream, wherein the data file is not a caption file; and

using the data file, generating a caption file including caption information associated with the at least one context sensitive metatag code; wherein a user may directly access the storage location of the context sensitive information by selecting, in the generated caption file, the caption information associated with the at least one context sensitive metatag code.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising using an automated search to identify information for metatagging.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising generating a stripped caption file by stripping the at least one context sensitive metatag code from the generated caption file.

4. The method of claim 1 , comprising time stamping the caption file to cross reference the generated caption file to video data.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving a first set of audio data;

generating, using the first computing device, a second data file including both text and the at least one context sensitive metatag code for the first set of audio data; and

formatting the second data file to generate a second caption file.

6. A method comprising:

receiving a text file including at least one context sensitive metatag code, which related to a given textural portion of a caption stream at a captioning device, wherein the received text file is not a caption file and does not include captioning data utilizable by a captioning system to display captions; and

generating a caption file at the captioning device by employing the captioning device to embed at least one context sensitive metatag code in the caption file; wherein the at least one context sensitive metatag code is context sensitive in relation to a given portion of the received text file and identifies a storage location of context sensitive additional information related to the at least one context sensitive metatag code of the given portion of the received text file.

7. The method of claim 6 , comprising using an automated search to identify information for metatagging.

8. The method of claim 6 , comprising indexing the caption file to a video data file by time stamping the caption file.

9. A system for creating a context sensitive metatagged caption file, comprising:

a caption device which receives, via a first input port, at least a first set of audio data of an event while the event is occurring;

a first device comprising a keyboard and at least one non-transient computer storage device containing at least one instruction which, when executed by the first device, instructs the device to perform the operations of producing from the first set of audio data of the event a text file including text and at least one context sensitive metatag code upon an operator selecting the same keystrokes on the keyboard; wherein the at least one context sensitive metatag code is context sensitive in relation to a given portion of a text and identifies a storage location of context sensitive additional information related to the given portion of the text; and

a captioning device comprising at least one second non-transient computer storage device containing at least one second instruction which, when executed by the captioning device, instructs the captioning device to perform the operations of, upon receiving the text file, generating a caption file including caption information associated with the at least one context sensitive metatag code by formatting the received text file; wherein by utilizing the generated caption file a user may select at least a portion of the caption information to directly access the storage location of the context sensitive additional information related to the portion of the produced text from the received event.

10. The system for creating a context sensitive metatagged caption file of claim 9 , comprising an editing system to:

edit the caption file;

strip the at least one context sensitive metatag code from the caption file;

add at least one second metatag code to the caption file; and

index the caption file to at least one of video data or audio data.

11. The system for creating a metatagged caption file of claim 9 , comprising an archive system to:

receive the caption file;

receive at least one of video data or audio data; and

index the caption file to at least one of the video data or audio data.
