Abstract

The invention relates to capturing, processing, and displaying panoramic content such as video content and image data with a panoramic camera system. In one embodiment, a method for processing panoramic video content may include capturing video content in a data storage medium of a panoramic camera; receiving eye location data from an eye tracker apparatus operatively associated with the panoramic camera and with at least one eye of a content creator; and, associating the eye location data with at least a portion of the captured video content. The captured video content with the associated eye location data may be communicated to an access device. In one embodiment, a field of view of the access device can be automatically panned or zoomed on a display of the access device in response to the eye location data.

Claims (29)

1 . A method for processing panoramic video content, the method comprising:

capturing video content in a data storage medium of a panoramic camera;

receiving eye location data from an eye tracker apparatus operatively associated with the panoramic camera and with at least one eye of a content creator; and,

associating the eye location data with at least a portion of the captured video content.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising communicating the captured video content with the associated eye location data to an access device.

3 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising automatically panning a field of view of the captured video content on the access device in response to the eye location data.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising automatically zooming a field of view of the captured video content on the access device in response to the communicated eye location data.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising time synchronizing the eye tracker and the panoramic camera over a wireless communication link.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising geo-synchronizing the eye tracker and the panoramic camera over a wireless communication link.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising aligning a zero point reference point between the panoramic camera and the eye tracker apparatus.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising embedding at least a portion of the eye location data in at least a portion of the metadata associated with the captured video content.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the captured video content is derived from stored video content.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the captured video content is derived from live video content.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the camera comprises a security camera configured to monitor a facility or area and to communicate an alarm in response to the identified content of interest.

12 . A system for processing panoramic video content, the system comprising:

a panoramic camera configured for capturing video content in a data storage medium of the camera;

an eye tracker apparatus operatively associated with the panoramic camera and with at least one eye of a content creator, the eye tracker configured for capturing eye location data associated with movement of the eye of the content creator; and,

an eye tracker module programmed for associating, with a processor of the panoramic camera, the eye location data with at least a portion of the captured video content.

13 . The system of claim 12 , further comprising the camera configured for communicating the captured video content with the associated eye location data to an access device.

14 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising a video panning module programmed for automatically panning a field of view of the captured video content on the access device in response to the eye location data.

15 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising a video panning module programmed for automatically zooming a field of view of the captured video content on the access device in response to the communicated eye location data.

16 . The system of claim 12 , further comprising the camera configured for embedding at least a portion of the eye location data in at least a portion of the metadata associated with the captured video content.

17 . The system of claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the captured video content is derived from stored video content.

18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the captured video content is derived from live video content.

19 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the camera comprises a security camera configured to monitor a facility or area and to communicate an alarm in response to the identified content of interest.

20 . A computer-readable medium including instructions which when executed by a processor of a panoramic camera cause the processor to:

capture video content in a data storage medium of a panoramic camera;

receive eye location data from an eye tracker apparatus operatively associated with the panoramic camera and with at least one eye of a content creator; and,

associate the eye location data with at least a portion of the captured video content.
